Well, on an tangentally related note to the recent discussion: I just played my most successful character ever a couple days ago. He was a Samurai, cleared the mines and Sokoban and was about to start the Quest. He got killed by the fact that I forgot that trolls revive from their corpses. :\

Trolls are annoying no matter where you find them. :P

- If you are very fast and time it just right, you can finish eating them before they revive.
- Pets and tinning kit would be your best weapon against them.
- If you're tough enough, just keep killing them. They have a smaller and smaller chance to revive.
- For non-water trolls you can throw their copses into water, they'll drown the moment they revive.
- A pit and a boulder.
- Kill them on altar and #offer (make sure you can convert if altar is not co-aligned)
- Locked door works IIRC, or at least will buy you some time

Oh God yes, wand of wishing in Sam's market. Had to rob my local to get enough cash to buy it, but magic resistance (at long last) was worth it.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

That and -27 AC, half phys damage, teleport control via ring, and 2 blessed healthstones... I'm still cautious about proceeding too quickly, if only because I know the game will decide to throw lots of shocking things to break all my gear/multiple As/giant shoggoths all over me the moment it gets bored (that said, magic resist and mostly everything being corrosion-proofed should mitigate that somewhat).

Hell, I haven't even reached Medusa yet.

I think you can put them in a box too.

You have to lock the chest or else they'll pop out and attack you again. If you're playing a wizard with the polymorph spell, then trolls are easy to get rid of. Kill them, then morph their corpses into something else.

Got a gnomish healer randomly, decided to PR due to 1951 gold (of possible 2000), got max protection at L1 without any close calls.

Boneheaded move when I thought jumping boots were waterwalking blanked a lot of my scrolls since I hadn't greased my BoH.

Buncha decent armor (+3 B low boots, +3 B elven mithril-coat, +1 B dented pot, +2 leather gloves, +2 burnt robe)

Have a red mold pet since one of my lesser dogs/cats ate a chameleon. Magic whistle means I can bring it along. Bets on how long it'll last? (It has received one red dragon-breath so far.)

Down to two maxed pets(dog/cat), lost the other three to a maxed warhorse (damn things hard to keep fed, seriously).

Then, no ludios, and it took me until Quest 2 (pre-medusa/castle) to get reflection (silver dropped scales, black dragon in distance) still no MR. Do have polycon which should suffice (though the scales obviate this).

Is blackdragoning a good idea against Cyclops? I know it's suggested against Ashikaga Takauji since it's instant-kill and protects you against bisection.

kit checklist:
got: robe, [SDSM, B+3unihorn, spetum, =Levi, (M-lamp
not got: MR, =Conf, =Regen, [Speed, [Brilliance, shirt, /oDeath[?:20], t-itis, t-con, +ID

Several years later...

Adventurer McDwarf: "Oh look, a treasure chest!"

-rattle-

"Hey it's locked! I'll just tap it with my wand of unlocking."

-tap tap-

-rustling sound-

"OH GOD WHY WOULD SOMEONE PUT A TROLL IN HERE?!"

You know you want to add that in now as a 1% chance of being in a locked chest.

Ustxu Iceraped the Frigid Crystal of Slaughter was a glacier titan. It was the only one of its kind. A gigantic feathered carp composed of crystal glass. It has five mouths full of treacherous teeth, enormous clear wings, and ferocious blue eyes. Beware its icy breath! Ustxu was associated with oceans, glaciers, boats, and murder.

Hmm...I've never been a big fan of CCGs - I mean, I did and still do collect Pokemon cards, but I never got heavily into the battling and trading thing.

By definition that makes you a fan since you still buy them.
