Using the wiki too much ruins the game expirence though.

Nethack is about the journey, not the destination.

Too bad that ascending without spoilers is incredibly hard. Ascending with them is still pretty damn hard.

Hmm...I've never been a big fan of CCGs - I mean, I did and still do collect Pokemon cards, but I never got heavily into the battling and trading thing.

By definition that makes you a fan since you still buy them.

Pshaw, REAL Nethack players play the game without spoilers, blindfolded, and with no keyboards. They just scream at the computer until they win.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Kick testing doesn't work reliably for Samurai and Monk (because they are good at martial arts), or when you have kicking boots or gauntlets of power equipped.

I got over the old death, after lots of raging and playing Angband (Sort of the roguelike version of hitting on your ex's worst enemy I guess).  Now I'm playing a knight.  Got a wish on my first fountain quaff, kickass, SDSM.

Yeah, he died, technically I quit.  Horse got killed in a freak early treasure zoo, tried using my wand of polymorph while wearing just SDSM in the hopes of getting a girly dragon and the resulting eggs for a Silver Dragon mount, didn't work, tried to polymorph myself while a dragon, didn't work, turned into wolf, broke my armor, gave up.

You are bound to run into polytraps sooner or later (first chance would be in the mines)... no need to waste polymorph wand charges on a slim hope of getting something nice, and to risk getting your pet killed by system shock (and the luck penalty).

As for polymorph, you only have 10% to change gender. So if you want to lay eggs, start as a female. I'm not sure if the dragon scale polymorph even give you any chance to change gender.

Nah, Slash'EM.

I don't think this area was worth the resources I used to clear it (especially some +4 ammo), but it's fun to clear nonetheless.

Farthest I got was the town in the dwarfish mines.

I probably should start over again an see if I can get further.

No, it's past that. It's Moloch's Temple.

No. Afaik, they only show up on shopkeepers and soldiers. You can find ammo in shops, but it's rare.

If you want one early on (and get proficient at using them later), try playing a rogue (who are actually pretty overpowered in Slash'EM anyway).
