Is it possible to add reactions for other workshops besides the smelter?

Not yet, but it's going in this update.

Caveats:

1) Last I heard, it's only going to be a handful of workshops. Kitchen and alchemist's shop for sure.

2) "This update" isn't likely to happen for another month or two.

regardless, the slime shooter will be completed, come hell or high water, which are both entirely plausible setbacks at this point.

The tanner's shop is the other one, I think.  But yeah, not for a while.

I thought it was the kitchen and the kiln...

Toady, how much of DF is inspired by Labyrinth? Is Armok actually David Bowie? Because that would simultaneously be disturbing and awesome.

Kiln? DF doesn't even have a kiln. A furnace, yes, but no kiln.

Haha, this is amusing because I know you of all people know better than this and you'll be slapping yourself later.

But anyway, no, I don't think we're getting kiln reactions unfortunately.  I think you can get some clues about new reactions from the material template preview -- skin, fat, tallow and milk all have a REACTION_CLASS and MATERIAL_REACTION_PRODUCT (incidentally I suspect cheesemaking might get moved to the kitchen, since Toady didn't say anything about the Farmer's Workshop being reaction-able).

Drat! Now this is what I get for not paying enough attention to those pearlash/potash workshops. :P *Facepalm*
