Post your dining halls.
« on: April 25, 2009, 04:07:12 pm »

I'm looking at the flow of dwarves, and to see if what I build is even close to what others out there have built.

I suggest double doors throughout to ease up those bottlenecks.  Also, one table and one chair, not one table and two chairs.  Waste of a chair.

Also - my dining hall is about like this
Code: [Select]
WWDWDWW
WTCFCTW
WTCFCTW
WTCFCTW
WTCFCTW
WWDWDWW

W=wall
T=table
C=chair
F=floor

You have to have tables two wide to do what you are doing,  MacLeod.  I did the same thing you're doing with my dining hall.  Two columns of two wide table surrounded by chair.

I'll bite. I was in here getting advice on this one, this is how it's turning out:

The green glass walls aren't quite finished, as you can see. I might modify it to have double doors at all cardinal directions for greater accessibility. The kitchen in the corner is meant to be temporary, but unless I decide to install a big statue garden or something in that end of the Grand Hall, to hell with it.

Only problem is that the aquariums remain empty, because my fucking dwarves pull the fish out and fucking EAT them as soon as they go IN. Most people look at the fish, my morons eat them.

RAW.

Would making them one-tile zoos work, or does there need to be an empty floor tile for the dwarves to stand on and marvel at the trout?

I like the fact we are seriously discussing how to drop dwarfs off towers using  kittens as cushions.

I have a pretty nice little dining hall. About 3 stories tall. Pretty much fully engraved; except for the ceiling.

Very impressive work.  The upper floors don't add anything to the value of the room, but for flash it's a nice job.

I'm torn between doing something like that and optimizing it for skill-increase, putting the dorfs together so they increase their social skills faster, chair-to-chair with tables on the outside.

6x8, seats 24 (which should cover a 100-dwarf fortress).  But it looks more like a plan for a school cafeteria.  :P

And a 4x4 mist generator running over both groups (expand as necessary), as well as statues in each corner of each group.

Tombpost's dining hall, not as great as some of my others, but it serves it's purpose.

I would like to thank this wonderful thread for enlightening me about why I always felt weird mining out my own dining rooms.

All of my dining rooms have been a rectangularish room attached modularly near my kitchens, serving only one purpose.  However, in my own house, the dining room is the focal point, the hub to which all other rooms are attached to the sides. :facepalm:

Smew - slowly replacing the obsidian with gold, is that what I'm seeing?

Duke - looks like the latest architect's proposal for the Lanai Hilton! sheesh!

Nope, ran out of gold bars after 30 tables, used steel for the last 6, the chairs are all steel for the northern set of tables, the southern set of tables is all stinky rock. :)

Ya not stupid. All the architects in here will feel stupid when the random peasant eats his meal down in the tombs instead, lol, and his halls are empty except for the dwarf version of the Bush twins partying hardy.
