I see and am baffled. You are right - there is a serious problem.

I would try to ramp it out, just as I don't see a reason why it behaves so odd.

i'd try ramping, but beforehand, scum the save and report this on the bugs subforum, with a link to the youtube and the scummed save-file. Looks like a bug?

To channel, you have to access the tile from a cardinal direction (not diagonally).  This can cause some headaches at times, but you can usually make it happen.

I've seen Dorfs channel diagonally before.
I often designate tiles which can only be reached by channeling diagonally, and it's always worked fine.

I suspect he means dwarves can't channel diagonally through walls.  They need open space on at least one side of the area to be channeled.

I'll go test this.

[edit]Nope, they channel diagonally just fine.[/edit]

Yes, actually, I am trying to get myself banned.  I wish Toady would quit working on this worthless piece of junk and go back to teaching math.

Anything on those spaces? What does it say they are? Specifically.  I think it's bugged though.  I have never seen something fail to designate, only fail to show that it is designated.

Video of the problem

If I understand the vid correctly, you are first trying to designate at one place -and fail- and then show a successful designation... in that case, weird. Do you have some kind of construction, like a partially constructed road, at that location?

Yeah, what was with the switch to "remove designation"?

e: oh, I see.  That's weird.  Yeah, 'k' and 'q' over that area I guess.  You might have a hidden building or something?

I've provided plenty of information, you just don't understand it.

Don't get snippy, sparky.  If one person is explaining and NO ONE is understanding, I know where I'd put the blame.

You haven't answered the question I asked yesterday, that you then quoted and ignored, and that lescronrads repeated, along with others since - WHAT DOES USING <k> TELL YOU?

Turns out you can't channel under drawbridges, I never knew that. Thanks for your help guys, and screw some of you for your, quote, "snippyness"

I don't understand why I wouldn't be able to channel there, there is nothing there when the bridge is up. Oh well, guess that's just how it works.

Because...

IF you had used "k", LIKE WE ASKED, it would have said "bridge".  Tourist.

"Tourist"?  Really?

lemonpieman -- if you're asking for help, you should do a better job of communicating with the people trying to help you (the 'k' thing was a step down the right track, and ignoring the question is really counterproductive).  It would have saved everyone time, including you.

Ignoring the question? How about sleeping?
I DID use k and I figured out,

"Hey, you can't make channels where drawbridges were."

Oh, go away.  Your problem is finished.

You really don't get these forums do you.  Go trolling somewhere else.

I'm done being helpful for you.
