Just found something interesting
« on: April 24, 2009, 07:38:55 pm »

I have a dwarf who was so miserable that he went stark, raving mad.  Not all that interesting I know, but the thing is that dwarf was in my military.  Instead of stripping off all his clothes and running the halls babbling, he is just standing at his rally point.  Weirdest thing.

Try rubbing a cat on it, that seems to help.

"Hey Urist, you sure you don't wanna come in for a drink or something?"
"AGHABLAGHAGARGLE!"
"...kay. Just uh, shout if you see anything."
"ARGLABLAGRAGH."

hahaaha.

Well, thats unusual, but whos to say he can't go stark raving mad and remain at his rally point? Maybe he went crazy because he never took joy in enough slaughters lately?

Either way, he was quite the disciplined soldier you had there, stayed on his post and stayed in uniform dispite losing his mind!

Yea, it was really weird.  It was really early in my fortress so there wasn't much joy of the slaughter to be had.  Doesn't matter now though.  He just died of thirst.  Now he's as stiff as his post.

You might want to post it in the Bug Reports menu.

Then again, one man's bug is another man's feature, you know.

It's already been a little while since it occurred so there isn't much to be seen in the save, otherwise I would.  If it happens again I'll post it.

I had something similar happen with a fortress, actually.

I chose a nice starting location (Flux, HFS, chasm, the works!) and early on I dug into the lava tube and tried to redirect it into the chasm to see what would happen. I got bored after watching it for an hour and decided to redirect it into my stockpiles just to see if camel meat burned well.

One of my military dwarves was good friends with EVERYONE in the fortress and as they all died from magma-induced scarring, he got worse and worse. Finally, I saw that he went insane, but was still at his rally point. Just to test him out, I was able to move him around and did so several times.

After I released him from his service, he stripped naked and went to play with the local GCS. Just before arriving, I drafted him back into the military and got control back. After I re-released him, he went to go play with the bats in the chasm. I lost sight of him in the mountains and then I got the "You had lots of fun!" message.

I wasn't able to control him.  He didn't even show up on my military menu.  He was on the Dwarf list though.
