I just flooded my fortress.  What should I do.  Oh, woe is me.

It was glorious.  No way to salvage this either.  Guess what?  MIGRANT WAVE!  Genius.  I'm abandoning.

For future reference, maybe try mining out one level above the entry through which water flooded, then collapsing it (or rather, the level above it). It should crash through to the floor below, which should block the water and allow you to drain the fortress. In theory, anyway. Haven't had the problem yet, but when I do that's what I'm planning to try.

I actually blocked the flooding from hitting the drainage room.  pretty funny, that.  Good thing my miners and engravers (who were smoothing the drainage room. (for kicks)) are all masons on the side.  It was part of my elf drowning chamber.  Glorious.

[CREATURE:DWARF]

[TILE:'E']
It can still be an elf drowning chamber, just a lot more complex and senseless than other drowning chambers.

I would bet money Andrew has edited things retroactively, except I can't prove anything because it was edited retroactively.

screw that, you build a mini-settlement elsewhere, salvage what dwarves you can after the tantrums begin, and create an elaborate pumping system to drain that bitch.

I got a nemesis unit load error.  Systemically deleted all traces of that from my folder.

And a poor design.  Doing better next time.

Do you think carving fortifications into the rock at the back of my fort would be a good idea? I'm up against the wall there.  To let water out the back of my fort.

Hmm...you flooded yourself with source water, right? Then depends on the level it came from. But you have nothing left to loose anyway, so go for it. You do have to find a way to stop it at the source though, but that should give you temporary relief.

New fort. What fort are we talking about? What flooding. I see no flooding.

New design.

I tried using the collapse method to punch through an aquifer once and only managed to kill a couple miners.
