Once again sorry it is taking me so damn long, most of you have probably already given up...

(OOC)ALRIGHT!

Dear My Queen,

With the return of your annual autumn caravan I left my status report and a summary of the past year's events:

First off, we have started a massive squad of marksdwarves, approximately 15 dwarves are currently equipped with crossbows and ready to fight for their friends

Second, We have begun steel operations, we have not started smelting armor or weapons however this will be done after we achieve a substantial amount of metal.

Third, Other metal smelting operations including Sapherite have begun too (OOC) that's all I have found

Fourth, We have place 7 dwarves into the mechanics duty, if you did not know already, I am a trap freak, every fort I have supervised is defending solely with traps however the channel makes a very difficult pitfalling setup and drowning chamber, so we are constantly creating mechanisms and stonefall traps.  If you look at our entrance it looks like a production facility.

Fifth, We have had two people go insane and build special things one was a wood crossbow worth approximately 6000 and a ring worth 30,000 (OOC)irony.......(IC) We hope news of these legendary artifacts will bring more immigrants in the coming years

Sixth, We had a very weak ambush a couple weeks back, We lost one marksman and a mechanic but took them out with all of our traps

Seventh, We have created separate wings for each profession, for now it isnt much but it gave me a reason to build multiple workshops for increased productivity

Eight, A serious bedrooming operation has begun, our original dwarves have been granted fine bedrooms (OOC) I love the slept in a personal palace thought :-) (IC) and the incoming immigrants are welcomed with decent bedrooms, we currently have enough bedrooms to hold about 80 dwarves, yet only have 62 living.

Ninth, I have placed production orders for coffers for all the rooms, current and future, for storage of dwarves personal items

Tenth, God damn the piece of work who thinks he can beat me in the election for mayor, I am sausage! the ruler of all the known universe! and he thinks he can steal my lodgings and priviledges? I don't think so.  I threw him in the military as punishment, the little bastard...

Eleventh, my dwarves have been hauling things for the past year with very few breaks, we need more immigrants in order to get these hauling jobs complete in order to keep production going

Twelfth, my crafters are going to fast for my liking, they have 100,000 worth of crafts in two seasons, it is creating too much clutter, I have a massive stockpile filled with bins and bins of the things and all the workshops are cluttered, try to send a ton of wagons in the next caravan, we need to get rid of some of this stuff

Thirteenth, here is the quote my bookkeeper (me) has given me about our current status:

Right,
My mayor is demanding an item in his office, then my seige operator withdraws from society, and has claimed a craftsdwarf shop.  He's building something out of nothing but chalk, can't wait.  My hammer dorf with the broken leg, is up and about now which is good.  His lover is still in bed with no arm.

Oh boy, a chalk trumpet :/ and it's worth 7200 -.-

And I just got two goblin snatchers caught in my traps, so I'm building up an indoor wood stockpile for the inevitable ambush.  Better get to work on my indoors fighting arena sometime soon to get rid of these goblins.  I'll need more animals first though.

Ok, so I got two ambushes, one after the other. The first ambush was completely slaughtered by my human caravan which was a bit of a let down, and then shortly after, a second attack which killed one of my weapon smiths, and a fishery worker, then the goblins ran off the map.

I marked a goblin to be executed in my "injury shaft" and as I watched my woodworker pull the goblin thief from it's cage I paused, as I saw the goblin outside of the cage and not above be pit.  Instead he was about where my updown stairs are, when I unpaused too see what he was doing, he was exploding... Yes, the goblin was pulled from his cage and exploded into bits , one arm and hand severed and 1 z level above him, and one of his legs and another arm on z level below him.

Again, I'm really sorry for the lack of DF playing, I thought my finals would be over last week but it turns out they will be done by today, and then tomorrow is my last day before summer.

I really got to nails these finals down before I can finish this third DF year, I'm almost done with it (mid winterish), and then I'll be able to continue with the other years.

I just got attacked by two ambushes very unexpectedly :(

There were several losses from the first one most imortantly, and probably the death that most aggrivated me, was that of a moody dwarf who was outside getting some more wood for the artifact crossbow he was making  >:(.

Shortly after that there was a second ambush.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

In the image above, you can see a woodworker carrying a baby.  The baby was annihilated and the woodworker made a mad dash, and was slayed on top of the hill shortly after.

I feared that my dwarfs would be angered by the several deaths, as I noticed I have very few ecstatic dwarfs, most are feeling pretty meh.  I was then most concerend about one of my soldiers who did much of the work and suffered much of the losses.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Maybe I  don't need to worry about him at all, seems to be handling it all fine.
hmm... maybe that last bit explains it.

I currently have an extreme hatred for my mayor, an extreme hope for a nearby election and a strong fear for my imperative metalsmiths... I was just given a mandate for 3 adamantine items... (OMG!)

and just a question, does that mean there *is* adamantine on the map or is it just a random mandate that will kill one of my more important members of society (UNLIKE THOSE DAMN FISH DISSECTORS)

EDIT: one more question, has anyone (I think everyone but coilgunner gave up :() found the aquifer that game so generously warned me about??I have looked everywhere but cant find it

Dear Journal,

Today, Mid-summer, our prayers were listened to by our queen, we have recieved a whopping 25 new migrants including about 9 peasants who were drafted into the military, we have just survived a small ambush of 6 or 7 goblins who died by the traps outside. We did lose one man though, a worthless carpenter who was replaced in the migration wave.  The fort is looking strong and healthy, with very happy dwarves.  We dream to prosper for many generations

P.S. I think the rest of the fort thought the mayor who took my position was crazy for that stupid mandate, they elected a new mayor (again, NOT ME) but because of past incompetence the previous mayor will stay in the military until the day he dies, along with the new mayor

P.S.S We have finished placing coffers in all completed rooms however we still need to build nore rooms to hold the new migrants

4TH year status report:

So far no major complaints on how our dwarves are working, I even let them keep a party going for a month only to force them to stop so I could trade with the mountainhomes.

That was a very generous caravan we sold a small amount of our craft stock but still have about 75% of what we started with, and if you look at the records on the caravan you will notice I still bought over 35,000 worth of goods and gave you about 12,000 extra.

So far, over the past few years we have had 9 deaths however the fort seems completely unphased.  Luckily, only one of these deaths were from goblins, the rest were either hunting or cave-in accidents (OOC) Those cave-ins were from setting up floors attached to bridges, I forgot you can't do that without support and for some reason the damn masons jump after the floor right into the chasm.

The trap corridor is holding the goblins back significantly, it spans 3 z-levels and is about 160 traps long by 3 wide, just long enough for your caravans but amazingly thin for attacking forces. This will only increase as the fort lives longer.

As with most forts, goblin sieges begin around 5th or 6th year so, if you caravans stop making it back, you will know why

Hey, how do you change the title of threads?? I think the current is not catchy at all

Still working on my fortress, I'll probably stay up later tonight working on it, and then again tomorrow morning and tomorrow afternoon after DriversED.  I'll get a new status report around then.

Right now I'm recovering from an ambush :/
All of the random people who work outside always get it worse, and then it screws everything up, I'll work on making my fortress almost entirely indoors, maybe I'll wall off a large section of trees outside and have a stairway coming from underground to access it.

Fucking christ...

That bullshit title stealer thinks so hot shit that he can ban things... goblets to be precise... I might have to have him "fall" into the chasm for failing to recognize that our entire fucking fort's trading is based solely on those fucking goblets!!!!

Year 5 status report:

2 major projects have begun and almost completed in the past year, a picture of a bow paved into the floor with Orthoclase and Microcline rocks is just about finished, just a little more Othoclase floors and we're done.  The second is a tomb for the inevitable king, We made a 10x10x5 pyramid on top of a royal mausoleum currently housing a pure silver sarcophogus and 4 silver statues, the pyramid is finished entirely however We have yet to fill the halls with silver statues and artifacts

We had 3 sieges, yes, that's right, 3, in three seasons. the first was very small and we only lost a dog. the second we lost a wagon (human caravan) and 2 marksdorfs, on the third we lost 2 muskox, I think my traps are going along swimmingly.

We had two massive surges of immigrants and no beds to hold all of them, we are also currently very low on wood due to your failure to bring more than 4 logs in your caravan this year.  Those logs were used to make items for the new nobles housing items because all of our mason's workshops are stuffed full of coffers.

Me and all of the other residents are praying for war against the elves, we have seized 2 caravans worth of goods and are expecting retaliation.

We created 3 (or 4?) legendary artifacts over this year however only one of them can be used for something, a legendary mechanism, which luckily trained my mechanic so much that he makes those traps for the corridor of death quite well.

Lastly, the tax collector noticed the mandate the previous mayor's mandate and realized it would destroy his official job so he had the mayor executed and I finally am put back in my rightful position! (OOC) He didnt actually die but my character got re-elected and I wanted a cool story (even though it wasn't that creative) (IC) However I think I went out of my mind for about 4 days and mandated nickel crafts... We don't have nickel but my damn bookkeeper won't let me take back my mandates...

Official Report my clients have come up with:

Coil, im gonna stop at the end of winter (not there yet) and wait for ya

will the rest of the confirmed fort-makers please let me know what you're all doing, even if that means telling me you gave up that would be sweet, by the way if anyone still wants in the original save is still on the second page (the second save post not the first, the first had a really bitchy start spot)
