I'd like to try this as well if possible.  A new way to play DF would be sweet.  Just expect alot of cows in cages. :p

I don't expect anything, saying that it is 5 different forts and 5 different people... now that I officially have 5 confirmed architects I will now generate the world... one moment

EDIT: first generation is absolutely fail... regenerating new one

EDIT2: second generation is good, but it has no sand with the HFS, and the place is HOT, not sure if you guys still wanna do it, but ill embark, then make a new one

EDIT3: Third Generation has found a good site, temperate with sand, lots of trees (unlike second) only thing is it doesnt have HFS and its untamed wilds (which I guess could make it better) I am embarking with the same dwarves on both just let me know which one you guys want to do, then I'll zip it up and throw it out there

EDIT4: Just throwing this out there, I am horribly against savescumming unless it is due to complete stupidity (like caving in the roof of your barracks onto your mayor, you count, your count consort and half your army) or if you are trying to achieve a specific result (like urist the mad dwarf)

Note to self: 2nd is region7, 3rd is region6 in save...

Of course, why else would dwarves risk life and limb to retrive one sock during a full scale siege onslaught.
The depressing thing is that they quite often lose life and limb(s) in the process.

I'll start later today, and to be honest I prefer the site in EDIT3 to be honest. I have bad experiences with HOT areas.

Yeah I had really kind of expected that lol, I have a nice fort going on a hot area, but thats because I have a nice well, and a nice underground farming operation going with really heavy defensive trap/cave-in system, and there are no elves :-)

I'll zip it right now, I need a minute to get it on my FTP server, I dont like rapidshare

EDIT: alright, zipped and uploaded, I was too lazy to put it on its own site so its on my programming library: http://broomfield.bvsd.org/~locke233/ProgramSite.htm

It is located near the bottom of the page

I will now write an introductory story about the fort...

Ah... we have arrived! Me and my misfit friends fresh out of college have gained permission from the king of mountainhome to start our own fortress.  We each have each taken separate classes on the basics of survival in the wilderness, this includes cooking, carpentry, mining, farming, etc.

We aren't exactly sure what the king has given us for starting supplies but from basic examinations it looks like some basic food, seeds, digging implements, and of course: booze.

Hopefully, for both ours and the king's sake, we can turn this lifeless mountain into a bustling fortress.  And note to self (yes all the people playing this fort) the king would like status reports with the return of each caravan each year. (so, whenever the autumn caravan leaves, I would like a status report, however due to the varying distance of each fortress and the mountainhome, this may not show up until the end of each year.

This status report need only consist of what occured, just major events, what still needs to be done, current wealth of the fortress, including food stores (I have included a dwarf with proficient appraisal for this)

Now, original dwarves of Vododdom, Let's start digging!

Now, to all human players, remember I do not expect a full out roleplayed story.  You can do this is you feel like it and have time, but don't expect one from me.  As for now (4AM where I live) I am going to start out and play only one year.  Then I will wait for at least 2 or 3 to finish their year before continuing, I would appreciate if everyone would do the same so we stay on the same page.

EDIT: oooooo we have a problem... the river in the world I zipped contains sturgeon, Pike and Longnose Gar....

EDIT2: ... and carp... fuck...

EDIT3: ok.. wow... my woodcutter just got face-raped by the carp... S.O.B!!!! Like I said, I may be against savescumming but when shit like that happens... especially in the first 2 fort days... I am making an exception

As noted I am at work for 4 more hours so I can take a look at the place in about 5. Sounds like there's fun to be had. :)

Ok that works, and if fun you mean DF fun, then absolutely but when your 2 miners get raped by the carp and sturgeon in 2 days you will get frustrated, please note when (not if) you savescum because of the carp (I already have three times, my miners died, my trader died and my woodcutter died)

although it is REALLY fun to watch the blood run downstream, but Im waiting for when the tantrums hit

ok... does anyone know why my leader feels like conducting a meeting? my trader is attending and he wont mine out the actual fortress?

EDIT: fuck... first farmer gets owned, then a miner gets owned and I think what the hell I can still do this, then the trader goes berserk chases my other miner for 4 days and runs him right into the river, now it just 2 farmers and a woodcutter, with no digging equipment... this is not happening... bad starting spot... anyone mind if I start a new fort?

EDIT2: woah, I think I have a bugged river... it just empties out into the grass... and then keeps going? anyone know the syntax for the image tags?

EDIT3: bug comfirmed, game thinks river is one z level above actual river so water is spawning above it and flooding the map, this is proven by carp appearing and dying above the river and falling in, there is also a junction between two rivers where blood is running into it and dissapearing, it looks like a waterfall however in the river there is no mist and one level below the river, it looks like it is flowing underground, without any wall holding it... I would show screenshots, but I dont know how to use img tags

I'm not kidding... does anyone care if I start a new fort?? that place is NOT working... too many dangers, especially since the wagon is RIGHT NEXT to the river full of sea lamprey, carp, sturgeon, and longnose gar

I wont mind either way, it would be fun to see if anyone gets a proper fort going :P but I haven't yet been able to see the save at all myself.

You can go ahead and generate a new area, that would be fine  ;).

As I said, I wont mind either way, and now that I managed to take a look at the site. I can't say that the River is bugged. There is a waterfall. There's too much water and the waterfall is overfilling the river under it. Which will, I'm afraid, flood the world in a year or two.

Luckily most of the water seems to be going south. So the northern valley the wagon is in should be rather safe for the while. I have, however, started building a wall to keep the water away from my tunnels that I have dug out. I have a ramp going below the river and back up to the soil layer on the other side. Setting up a farming operation over at the other side of the river.

EDIT: Yes let's start somewhere else. 1/3 of the map filling up with running water is not nice for the framerates.

Well, it seems like a pretty hardcore zone when your first dwarve dies within 3 seconds of the first unpause when the game begins.  DAM FISH.   We using another embark or this one?
