It's worth less than some statues I have.

You know, seeing that I felt that that particular dwarf was complaining about you not getting enough diamonds in your fortress. I mean, making a cheapo artifact with an image of diamonds on it is really a hint, isn't it?

In that case, I think that dwarf really hated you. I mean, placing that image there and not actually using diamonds is really a nasty way to say "I could use diamonds, but I won't.". I wonder if that dwarf was in a grudge state against the player :) :) :)

Maybe he was just too lazy to walk over to the gem stockpile, and didn't think you'd know the difference.

I think the dwarves of my current fort are going for some kind of record:
Worthless:
-A birchen splint: worth 3600 DB
-An alder bow: 7200 DB
-A mule leather leggings: 8760DB

Useless:
-A perfect tsavorite: 72000 DB
-A gold earring 82800 DB
-An aluminium cage: 405600 DB

Useless AND worthless:
-A perfect chrysolla: 4800 DB
-Two iron figurine: 14400 and 26400 DB

Weird:
-A grizzly bear leather tong: 401400 DB (The most expansive underwear EVER)

These are all artefacts the dwarves of "Girderpool" have produced so far. The only things that come close to being useful are the leather thong and the cage, although the dwarves refuse to use the cage in cage traps! I would use it for a zoo, but it is named "Sealtroubles", so it seems wrong to use it for anything else

That cage sounds awesome.  Build it as the centerpiece of a dining room for a very special noble.  Put a lever next to it that triggers some water-based Fun, such as dumping the entire room into an underground lake.  Your lucky noble will be ecstatic at having a royal dining room, and if when you get tired of him you can order him to pull the lever.  "If you're a seal, you'll have no troubles!"

This. Add rare/valuable/noble's favorite pet for good measure and additional happines.

Put it at the entryway. That way, he'll feel safe knowing that if some berserk dwarf wants to rip his head off, he'll be stuck in the cage.
