AWESOME new embark location!
« on: April 23, 2009, 05:18:28 pm »

First off, the location and the worldgen parameters.  Please read the whole post for info though.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

This site features
-A nice river flowing through it
-A chasm
-A bottomless pit
-HFS!
-Magma pipe extending to the surface
-Underground river
-THREE different sets of surroundings, you get Terrifying, Untamed Wilds, and Wilderness all rolled into one site!
-Despite having only a small amount of non mountain terrain, this site has TONS of trees.
-Yellow sand and red sand!
-NO aquifer at all!
-Poking around with Reveal showed me Hematite, Native Gold, Copper, and Platinum in large amounts.
-Cave spiders for silk
-Access to all 5 Civilizations (please note I have the Orc mod installed)

And here's something I've never seen before.  If you pick the 2nd Dwarven civ as your starting civ, the Goblins will be actively AT WAR with you!

Here's a better picture for you guys.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Well, whatcha think?

UPDATE - Some pics of the site for you.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
You can see all of the major features here, and how plentiful the sand is.  The river carves a canyon out of the mountain in the lower left.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
This is a few Z-levels higher, just so you can see to the left where the trees are.  They're actually quite plentiful in that small area.  And there's a few small ponds as well.

Nice. How it goes about flux though?

Sadly, I couldn't find any flux at the embark screen =/

I never did get why everybody was so concerned with flux.
That's what goblins are for.
Also, I want somebody to find me one of these sites in a 3x3/4x4 area. xP

I never search for them because I imagine at 4x4 with every feature it'd be quite crowded. Especially if you go for both bottomless pit and chasm.

I posted one of those in this thread, Smew.

And I'd rather have a crowded map where I have to work around site features than one without those challenges. Makes it more interesting.

Gobbos don't substitute for flux, they substitute for iron.

I agree that steel is nice, but I can live with iron if need be.

Remind me to kiss you later, and by kiss you I mean sic the lesbians on you.
Also, I always forget gobbos just have iron, I modded them to have METALPREF so they come steel equipped, thousands of steel bars! :D

It's all igneous extrusive so no bauxite under the ground and no bauxite on embark. I didn't get the 2nd dwarf civ, just the first one. Looks cliffy as well. Gonna regen and see if the 2nd civ shows up, but looks like bauxite isn't going to happen on this site.

Regen didn't change anything. It's pretty nice. The brook carves a nice canyon through the site. Sand is *right* next to the magma pipe which is surface exposed, but not much there for the imps to set alight. No major nasties. A bunch of cave swallowmen to annoy you, mostly - and a gremlin. Good chance for a GCS somewhere.

Lots of colored stone, ore, and gems. Now to figure what to do with it...

Another Dwarf Heaven, these are turning up all over the place now, except neither Dwarf Heaven, nor this one, have sedimentary, so no bauxite... Anyway, nice except it doesn't have flux.

Or coal, which makes tree-burning hell a necessary activity for steel.

More like Dwarf Purgatory in my book, but I'll freely admit that maybe I'm too picky, and I like to keep the modding to a minimum. :\

The 2nd Dwarven civ didn't show?  Are you using the orc mod, or any other mod that would change that?

I don't know if this would work, but couldn't you first embark in a site with (plenty of) bauxite and flux?
Then, get king, making it the mountainhome, then embark here with the same civ?

Also, the bauxite need can be averted with the Molten Rocks mod, unless you want it for the corundum.

Magma smelters need no coal.

The thing that confuses me about dorfs is this. Dorf 1 dies in an avalance or somesuch. Dorf 2 is friends with dorf 3 and dorf 1. Dorf 2 berserks because of his friends death and kills dorf 3. also a friend. W. T. F.
Clearly you've never been drunk.

Magma smelters need no coal.
They do if you want to smelt steel from the flux.
