Megaproject:The Valley of the Gods
« on: April 22, 2009, 03:23:27 pm »

The Citizens of The Young Lance withdraws from society
Inodzagod has claimed a region
The Knife of Ice has begun a mysterious construction

Inodzagod sketches pictures of a Quarry
Inodzagod sketches pictures of Dwarfs
Inodzagod sketches pictures of Picks
Inodzagod sketches pictures of Masons workshops

I Bring You The Valley of the Gods

Red dots are markers of places where you can tell me what I should put there since they are simply decorative.

so far I have three statues planed and two under construction. one constructed entirely above ground and two that will be carved out of the mountains nearby. The first one stands 15 z-levels tall built solid with Obsidian and has a decent sized temple underneath it. forming its base. In its feet are a pair of reliquaries where I am storing all my artifacts. I have not built an altar yet, and would like a few suggestions. since I don't want to use a table and have dwarfs eating on the altar.

The only features the site has is a chasm and a very small brook, so magma falls are not possible.

welcom to the Valley, Please dont talk to the Dwarfs here, they have been working on this project for over 3 years, who knows when they will feel like failing their mood and going berzerk.

I love how the MS Paint gives it a rough and unfinished yet mysterious feel.

I like that too. makes me almost glad my Tablet is in the shop.

[Edit] when i have the first statue finished I will be posting 3Dwarf renders, except i don't know how to get shots. and on top of that is there a way to not have it slice on the x/y? When I print screen the 3Dwarf screen returns a black image.

The obvious answer is to create a small cistern, and use a repeater and screw pumps to make one of the statues slowly cry.

The one farthest to the left is supposed to be kneeling in anguish (not sure if you can tell from the sketch and his out reached hand) so he would be a perfect candidate.

I also just thought of a fun addition I know towercaps cant grow outside, but if grown and then opened to the air, will they die? If not I will try and mud up and get them to grow on one of the statues and once i have sufficient growth break down the shade box. I have to jump in to my pantheon and see what god would be what so they can each represent one and have their own temple that resembles them

there is no magma on the map sadly (I thought I said that in the first post.) oddly the stone is about 80% obsidian, soooo... duno.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
this is from my earlyer test upload to 3Dwarf before i started the second statue. you can see my temporary floor scafolding for the arms. I should probably finish those. Will walls suspend from walls a Zlevel above? if not I might have some unhappy collapses when I pull apart the superstructure.

[Edit] I think the hardest statue will be Armok himself. I think I will dig down and make a cave whit only a Dwarf face at the far wall. caged elves, humans, goblins and dwarfs. goplins to be striped of their weapons and beaten in the temple to make sure there is at least a few "a spattering of blood" in the temple at all times, is there a designation to prevent cleaning from taking place without neglecting the rest of the fortress? maybe I will simply make refuse stockpile for body parts and make sure they are always full.

or a rose made out of Star Ruby, like from Farthen Dûr from the Inheritance series.

If this all doesn't fix it, your dwarfs are lazy. Apply magma.
"And thereafter, all dwarven children were taught to mind their stools, lest the toilet-fiends snatch their souls from their bottoms"
Try rubbing a cat on it, that seems to help.

Quite obviously it should be a Pick, striking the Earth (or striking a elf?)

(On the "free" spot)

Walls will support things under them, as will supports.

perfect, was worried when i pulled away the scfolding I would have the giant stone dwarf "Strike the Earth" and kill half my masons. I like the ide of him holding a gem, the only gems ive found so far have been opals of varying types.

Armoks temple can have a multilevel alter but my first temple sadly can not. plus the god it represents is a god of Earth and Volcanoes, I would have built a magma fountain if i had known what god it would be at start and had magma. Can you make magma using a utility such as tweek? I am using vanilla because I want everything to be built by my dwarfs, however story wise these are religious fanatics, and they would probably go to great lengths to procure a small quantity of something so closely tied to their god.
