Dwarf Statue
« on: April 22, 2009, 09:55:48 am »

So, I'm going to be making a dwarf statue to go on my gatehouse, and I want to know what you guys think of my design.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I'll probably make the pick out of whatever metal I have (tin :/). The dwarf itself is orthoclase (like the rest of my gatehouse/barracks + wall, I got lots of it) The beard will be made out of granite. Both orthoclase and granite will be normal stones, no blocks (rough walls ==> rough dwarf).

Something I should add or remove?

Finished! I made the pick out of silver.

Entrance, with dwarf on to of it!:

bloodstone windows for eyes.

hmm. eyes would be very hard to position, since it only has four tiles width on the head. So it's either this: (X being eyes O being walls)

XOOX or XOXO or OXXO

neither of which really appeal me. Also, I seemed to have killed my liason (stupid mayor deconstructing a hanging stairs he was on), so requesting these would be impossible.

When I saw what you were making I just about cried since i am working on one myself as my first Mega project. but seeing that your head is only 4 across i see that mine is quite a bit larger scale wise. Mine will be the first in a series of Mega statues in various poses.

about eyes, if you are using 3dwarf, they won't look any different from the rest of the statue, and glass eyes would only have a game effect if the statue were hollow and someone was living in its head. so dont stress out to much about them. I wonder what your gobo seges will think when they see that standing over your gates :)

Fortifcations for eyes?  Can you build Fortifications out of Glass Blocks or something?  Or do windows work as fortifications?
After all, the only thing better than a giant statue is one firing lasers bolts from it's eyes.  Possibly ballista bolts, though it's rather unfortunate you can't fire at a different Z-level.
And maybe magma pouring out of the mouth/beard.  A magmafall beard?

Seems like this is going to be Liberty Dwarf Prime

The dwarven economy is just a stand-in, from what I understand. As it is, it represents an actual economic system about as well as poison ivy represents a salad.

This is not my megaproject. :P It's just a part of the entrance to it.

I can't put in eyes. The head is too small for that.

Fine, put some on top.  Either as a crown, or just as Dwarven hate-death rays delivered straight from the brain!

Ah well.  I guess not everything has to be about wholesale slaughter and death, as odd as that may sound.

There are three things I know about dwarves:
1. They've got beards. Even the women.
2. They're short. Especially the women.
3. They're Scottish.

Well, you'd only need to make it one tile wider to have good spacing on eyes.  But that depends on the alignment of the rest of the megaproject.

It's not part of a megaproject. Just the entrance. and IfI make it 1 tile wider, then it wan't put it in the middle of my gatehouse :/

So this is kinda a Colossus of Rhodes design?  Traffic goes between the feet?

That's a great add-on program for designing.

Too bad you didn't make it a mega-project so you could have more detail, but it's still nice.
