Fallout mod for HOI2, incredibly good. This is arguably the reason to still play HOI2.
I tried to install it for DH, and it threw 2160 read errors. Is that just a sign of the game being in beta, do I need to reinstall, or is the DH version unplayable and I need to find a 'plainer' version of the base game?

Are there any HOI3 mods making the game more prone to EUIII-like deviations in history?

Thanks for the advice about Japan.

I did find one thing kind of weird after starting the war with Nationalist China. After I had most of Shanxi occupied, they were automatically annexed. I'm playing with all settings on played controlled, is this normal? Any problems with that happening?

... I forget, to be honest. I remember you usually have to annex them via the diplomacy choices, but maybe Japan has certain 'must annex NAO' triggers for those countries? Or I have my HOI2/HOI3 wires crossed and am totally spacing on what's happening there.

The version needed should be listed.

Well, fiddlesticks. Any idea how I can downgrade my DH to 1.02?

The topic on the paradox boards should be more recent, and that does have a version for 1.03. Even if said version is still in development right now.

If it's anything like HOI2, warlord states are automatically annexed by Nationalist China via events when you occupy enough of them, and their armies inherited by that country.  A lot of the warlord politics aren't really well-modeled in-game since the warlords are more independent than satellites and not quite fully sovereign (since they, at least, pay lip service to a united China), and since the devoting resources to accurately model it would detract from other areas where they could be put to more general use across the entire game, it usually gets papered over by event-driven determinism.

So I finally managed to get into HOI3 after reading a little bit and taking some time to read online. I started with Nationalist China, which was a nice suggestion that would let me prepare beforehand and try to beat back the Japanese advance.

After two or three tries, I actually managed to set up a nice command structure for a northern theatre, halted the Japanese advance, and then slowly began to creep forward, taking province by province. I made sure leadership was high before the conflict, and always have a few corps behind the lines getting their organisation back.

I am now getting into significant problems with supply. The front has moved into Manchukuo a little bit, but my units keep running out of supply. When they get attacked, they rout very quickly and take forever to get their org back. The Japanese are actually managing to push back now.

I read somewhere that this has to do with infrastructure, and that that needs to change. I don't think I focused my tech on that early enough, so that now I can't really build infrastructure.

My question is: how long will it take infrastructure to build once I've got the tech? And more than that, what can I do in the meantime? I'm thinking about the following:
- Bring resting units way back from the frontlines to get supplies more easily
- Set up sea convoys somehow?
- Give up some of the front in order to make it smaller and have more people resting
- SPAM THE HELL OUT OF INFRASTRUCTURE ONCE IT'S RESEARCHED

Halp?

Spam infrastructure AWAY from the coast, otherwise the japanese will start landing marines and other nasty things away from your frontlines. Infrastructure also takes a long time and a decent amount of IC per level of it as well. So your best bet would be to give a bit of ground, and just grind the japanese down so that they'll be much weaker when the US starts tearing them up and down the pacific.

Aw man, I wish I was more prepared... I guess it's live and learn, but it was a couple of years slog to get through to Manchukuo. Japan isn't really there much anymore, it's mostly Manchukuo. Oh well!

I guess I'll do that - thanks for the tip about the coast!

Hah :D Not making that mistake then!

Some of the things I've read seem to indicate that IC might have some impact on supply distribution, but for that the IC needs to be in a core province? I haven't really been able to find any significant information on this. I could do with building up my IC as well as my infrastructure, but building IC nearish the frontlines might help kill two birds with one... factory?

Basically when you build supplies they appear in provinces with IC. Presumably it's an even spread, so it'll be a fairly minor benefit (unless you have a lot of IC at the front lines).

Re: China - Another option is to fight with a smaller, but hand-picked part of your army - best units with best generals, constructed of the most supply-efficient brigades.   Move the rest of your units to get a different supply path.    Also make sure the generals you're using in the upper hierarchy are the +supply guys wherever possible, that definitely helps.   And yeah you might have to pause and let supply catch up to your front units sometimes.  Make use of the map option to show the flow of your supplies, and learn how it works.

That being said, supply is kinda wacky in HOI3, and it got more "fixed" in every expansion and patch.  There IS an option to turn it off too - a lot of people did that before it got patched, and I think it helps the AI too so it's not pure easy mode...
