From what I understand, there is a chance you'll get that error when you save scum via Ctrl+Alt+Del. Apparently some information is stored in files while the game is running, and when you kill it via CAD and load it up again, those files won't be properly handled.

Yeah, your save gets screwed up.

I savescum, but I backup the entire save folder once or twice a game year, fully deleting the older folder whenever I move something. Works like a charm.

I never scummed with this wold or file, nor did I alt-ctrl-del.

It might have something to do with the civilization forge mod, as the error occured when the vamarian caravan usually turns up. Or It could be the goblins, as whenever i use a mod, they don't work properly (not moving or anything).

It is certainly the same errour - not sure where yours came from.

It's believed that if you ever kill a game via <ctl+alt+del> you can end up there.  Also if you used Reveal without creating a backup first, problems will occur (it seems to corrupt the saved file it works from.)  Other 3rd party utilities are unknown quantities as well.

The errour will keep showing up at the same time until you go back to an uncorrupted copy - how far back that will be is unclear.  Good luck.

That's... so false.  (You do that on purpose?)  :-\

I am a patient save-scummer. I backup the saves in a BACKUP folder after almost every year or when I want to test to see if something works (Magma channel + booze in channel = landmines?)
I just got this error and it pisses me off because none of the backup saves work, even from 3 years ago. It happened on the same day. Sad

I have seen this error, but it was not in fortress mode. It was with my adventurer, and there was one town (and not a town where traders came from) that would crash upon load, whether I entered through the world map or from the local map. It crashed both on my laptop and desktop.

I guess it might come from save scumming, but I see no other way than to close my game through ctrl + alt + del if I want to close without save. I sometimes accidentally load a wrong save, and I don't want it to become a current save or abandon the fortress.. so I hit ctrl+alt+del.

So, when's that Quit Without Save option coming up? :P

I think this error means that your save is corrupted.

I think this error means that your save is corrupted.

this is correct. unless you have a backup of your save, you're screwed :/

savescumming makes this more likely but your save file can get corrupted even without doing it, I would recommend always using automatic saves/backups in the future if you don't already.

The one unit your dwarves cannot beat.  >:(

I've lost 2 games to NE errours now, and I may be on my third. I'm not savescumming to min/max, just quitting and saving each session where I am.

This sux.
