That's a rather cool way to view the heights of each region.

Yea, go to Start Playing->Legends->d for various options for exporting, such as elevations.

You can fake a heightmap by exporting images of every layer of the site; each layer is one Z-level, after all.

Interesting image. Not quite what I was expecting, but cool in its own way.

I believe that's the ocean floor.

Trippy.

When I realized that it was the ocean floor, what I was seeing as a mountain suddenly reversed. Neat.

That is awesome.  Out of curriosity, how'd you do it?

I tried doing it with one of mine, and while it technically worked, I don't have much experience with blender, so I'm interested to see how you did it.

On the engraving is an image of Cheese.

Wow.  Awesome.  I'm going to try this with my world, as soon as I get a chance.

Timmeh, while I cant speak for the OP, here's how I'd do it:

Sorry if that was too much information, too little, or way incorrect.  It's been a while since I've used blender.  Somebody correct me if I'm wrong.

Thanks!  Out of curiosity, what is the best way to get a second texture for the color map, I pretty much just screwed around with it till it worked.

Actually, rather than a mesh, I'd use a program that supports displacement maps or terrain items (basicly a flat displacement map) to get a 100% accurate version.  Personally this is exactly the task I'd use Bryce for, with some creative texturing and alterations to get a real worldview other than the tilemap.

Timmeh, there should be several blank buttons in the texture tab.  Clicking on one should make it the active one, and you can make any changes to the texture in that slot, then click on another button and change/add another texture the same way.  I don't remember exactly how the texture mapping worked, there was another tab for it, back in the material section, I think.  Like I said, I'm away from my home computer right now, so I can't be sure.

Time Kitten, I don't know about terrain items, but Blender does support displacement/bump maps, though in my experience, they're better suited for smaller scale things, rough, bumpy surfaces, etc.  Bryce looks interesting, but it's not free, so meh.

Something else to try, using the site/biome maps, or some of the others, as texture.  That way you get the nice colors, without the ascii.  Maybe some kind of combination of several could look neat.

EDIT here we go!

Alrighty, here's my first two:

The first is most of the world, and the second is a little valley, only accessible on foot (no fast travel), which had been colonized by a few peaceful civs.  I have fun traipsing across the mountains.

More soon.

EDIT 2, here's a version with the biome/site map, nice, but I like the ascii better, I think.
