Elves not brining Animals
« on: April 19, 2009, 11:36:30 am »

Well, what says the title. The elven caravans coming to my fortress pretty much only brings wood, cloth and plants. Not a single caged animal. Any idea of why it might be happening?

Same here, the elves have never brought me a single animal.

The elves do that sometimes. Best just to kill them and take their stuff.

Elves do it in trees. Humans do it in wooden structures. Dwarves? Dwarves do it underground. With magma.

I got nothing the past two years, then two grizzlies and a fox.  WOopy!

But yeah. Just kill them.

At first I was horrified that the general consensus on elves seems to be "just kill them" ... but then I remembered that's what I do as well.  ;D

I have been letting mine go, but I'm building the elf drowning chamber now. It's not ready yet...

Are they showing up with "empty" cages? Elves have been known to bring animals to inhospitable biomes, resulting in caged corpses for trade.

Toady, how much of DF is inspired by Labyrinth? Is Armok actually David Bowie? Because that would simultaneously be disturbing and awesome.

several times, I had elves bring tame vermin, which would escape into my fortress, so I'd get them for free. it's kind of awesome, actually.

It's amusing when you pay 20 dwarfbucks for a cage and then discover there's a dead camel in it.

I await the day when I can instruct my dwarves to use eldritch lore to bring the dead camel back to life.

Only vaguely. Made of the same substance and put to the same use, but a bit like comparing a castle and a doublewide trailer.

Just as I was about to wall the Elves in and drown them, I noticed that they had a tame Jaguar and Grizzly Bear for trade.

They were spared, just this once, in hopes that they bring back more next time.

I pretty much have a zoo in my fortress because of the elves.  I have Breeding populations of black bears, wolves, elephants, hippos, chimpanzees, warthogs, and gorillas.  Plus a bunch of other random animals they have only brought once or twice.

Only drawback other then the FPS is that I occasionally get excited when I see the words "triplets" and "born" in the same sentence in the announcement screen only to realize it was one of the monkeys.
