Challenges
« on: April 19, 2009, 02:02:28 am »

Alright, how about we put out some challenges. I'm bored, and haven't really had much challenge so far. Just post anything you'd like to see built, done, or whatever else. Preferably something not requiring a crazy specific embark site (such as a lava shaft adjecant to a chasm), but normal features are fine.

I'll start: I've always wanted to see a huge tower that pumps water from a nearby source all the way up, then dropping it out to create waterfalls, preferably on all four sides. The whole thing has to be powered by either windmills on top, whaterwheels nearby, or a combination of the two. No dwarf power allowed.

Good luck  ;)

Generate a world with 6 Orc civilisations.

Last longer than a year.

Go on, just try. So far without using an atom smasher i just get mauled in the first winter when 100+ Orcs show up in rapid succession.

I'm assuming this requires the Orc mod, which I can't seem to find. Googling returns only forums talking about it. Anyone have the link?

Oh, well, if you havn't played with the Orc mod then you havn't played with challenge.

Seriously, i've finely honed my ability to get a fortress worth 100 - 200k by Autumn, unfortunately this means i promptly get a 30 Orc invasion in Winter, and the buggers avoid traps.

Still trying to work out how to survive that first invasion, i think i'm going to have to bite the bullet and just not make as much wealth.

Or any other massive sculpture/statue that requires 3Dwarf to view, really.  ;D
Bonus points for magma/water fountains inside!

Project Uristshock

Because Urists are notoriously dangerous to Dwarven (note, not Dorfen, which is different entirely) society, they must be dealt with. Build self-sufficient living quarters above a magma pipe. Build one for each Urist. Once it it complete, insert Urist, remove pillar. Repeat.

Challenge: Computer Killer
Requirements:
  • Population Limit must be stupidly high (99999999 or something)
  • Invasions, temperature, and weather must be ON
  • You must not slaughter any tamed animals (Catsplosion :D)
  • NO purposeful killing of dwarves or tamed animals
  • 5x5, 6x6, 5x6, or 6x5 area
Everything else is up to you!
Good luck with having your computer, you know, NOT explode/catch on fire.

How about you make a dwarf calculator that can compute some simple equations.

Screw simple equations, see if you can make it do trigonometry.

Make the dwarves develop computers allowing them to play Human Fortress and have them develop a computer allowing them to play Dwarf Fortress. Bonus points if you understood that.
