Armsmasters, statisticians, and brokers are the shit. Get em.

IIRC:

Armsmasters: increase the rate at which you increase in weapon mastery, maximum 1900, or x20 the usual rate.

Statisticians: Increase how much EXP you get from enemies, maximum at 300 (or x4 exp).

Brokers: increase the money you get, not sure what the max is but I think it's x4. They're not that important really since storebought items are VERY QUICKLY outclassed by items that you can only get from stealing and bonus gauge prizes. Unless the DS version is different somehow.

Yeah, I don't understand those bonus things on some items.  How do they work?  When you equip them?

Also, I'm stuck on the second encounter with Mid-Boss.  He had 100 HP left and I lost.     That was the closest I got.

Alright, since this is very early in the game, don't worry about item residents, they don't matter unless you're aiming to do all the secret endgame bonus stuff.

Don't worry, once you've grasped all the game's mechanics, you'll find that it's laughably easy.

This is the truth: I've beaten the game using a single male cleric, not using the store, not using the starting items, not using any other character, only using items won from the bonus gauge, and not using the capture monster trick. It was a long tedious process, savescumming, abusing the item world, bonus gauge farming, grinding like noone's business but I beat the game with that single male cleric, and wrote some crappy fanfiction along the way.

This is the start of my Metal Gear Cleric Self-Imposed Challenge

i'll copy and paste the explanation of the rules from the other self imposed challenge thread.

You may only use One character. period. if that character dies, you have to Quit and try again.

You must start with your empty 16-slot inventory, and this is all you can use. Your 256 slot warehouse doesn't even exist as far as your concerned. if you don't keep it tidy, and an item from the bonus guage ends up in the warehouse, that item is considered LOST. You can't associate with your warehouse in any way, shape, or form.

Your one character must start the game naked, with no weapon or equipment. Any items you acquire must come from either the bonus guage, or, if you've acquired a hand from the bonus guage, you may steal an item from an enemy. You may NOT take your hospital prizes.

you may use the hospital, but you may NOT use either of the stores. While you can't buy things, your allowed to sell things in order to keep your inventory tidy.

You may not transmigrate to other classes, or even to the same class. So as to prevent Transmigration trickery in order to get any spell you want or manipulate your weaknesses. You MUST stick with your one character as you created him.

While my may not recieve help from other characters, Using the dark congress to improve your character and open up new areas is acceptable. If you plan to persuade by force however, you must do it with your one character, and, of course, any items you choose to bribe with must come from either the bonus guage or from stealing.

For the sake of challenge, avoid the temptation to grind on certain stages, either for levels or items, and try not to abuse the item world, unless its truly necessary to overcome whatever challenge lies ahead of you. Also for the sake of challenge, you may not get the Longinus from... err... Longinus. Nor can you use the Diabolic Sword when it's given to you.

Finally, IF (and this is a big IF), you make it to an item god 2 and defeat him with your one character following the above rules, pat yourself on the back and use that hyperdrive, you earned it.

 Turn-based, Grid-based, combat done with squads, psuedo-3D terrain with 2D sprites...

 I actually have not played Disgaea, but looking at it on youtube...

Hehe. Nothing wrong with playing a game inferior to Final Fantasy Tactics. Most games are, in truth. At least, in that genre.
