One of those challenge 'more fun' thingies
« on: April 18, 2009, 08:40:18 am »

Thought of a morbid self challenge game play mode. Dwarf Survivor. Play normally, with one exception, make a quick usable death chamber. As soon as you have enough dwarves for a mayor, you enlist the mayor, station him in the death chamber, pull the lever, no more mayor. Every time your dwarves elect a new mayor, into the death chamber he goes! Doesn't matter who they mayor is, or how important. Champion fighter, farmer, brewer, only guy who knows how to use a pick, the mayor must die as soon as they are elected! (Bonus points if the mayor is a mom with a baby, and friends with every person in your fort)

Another challange you can do;

Madhouse; 20-50% of all your dwarfs have to be "mad" (Starve them long enough, throw corpses at them) and locked away, but still be kept alive somehow.

i thought insane dwarves would always die eventually (melancholy and stark raving mad won't eat or drink, I'm not sure about berserk but I'd guess that'd be the same)

Berserkers fall prey to the same mysterious infliction of needing food and drink yet refusing to obtain either.  It makes putting elven merchants in an arena rather difficult.

And this is how tinned food was invented.
Alternately: The Brick Testament. It's a really fun look at what the bible would look like if interpreted literally. With Legos.
Just so I remember

Does this mean if you add NO_EAT and NO_DRINK to elves you could keep an asylum of babbling elves?  :o

You know I thought the same thing, but I had this one poor bastard of a Furnace Operator chained up for some failed mandate, he went insane sometime after he was chained up (he was already extremely unhappy) and he got the "stark raving mad" type that has him naked and all.

I think the caretakers of prisoners "feed" them and although they don't feed or drink for themselves, your bored random lye maker will FEED the insane dwarf food and water.

So the result is a deranged, useless, insane, naked dwarf being kept alive forever on the end of a chain.

The problem is not with killing elves but with you.

You've gone down some path that dead ends so you need to back up and do something differently is all. Forget what you know and such.

Challenge: Second Amendment
Upon departing:
All dwarves must be armed with a crossbow
All dwarves must be trained with it to "Marksdwarf" proficiency - with the possible exception of woodcutters and other military dwarves.
Armor is optional, ammo is not.

New immigrants must be immediately armed and drafted into the military until they have attained a minimum skill level of "Marksdwarf"

BONUS: every wall in the fortress must be carved out into fortifications
BONUS: replace crossbows with siege weaponry
BONUS: don't keep an active, dedicated military - let the citizens defend themselves

Challenge: Computer Killer
Requirements:
  • Population Limit must be stupidly high (99999999 or something)
  • Invasions, temperature, and weather must be ON
  • You must not slaughter any tamed animals (Catsplosion :D)
  • NO purposeful killing of dwarves or tamed animals
  • 5x5, 6x6, 5x6, or 6x5 area
Everything else is up to you!
Good luck with having your computer, you know, NOT explode/catch on fire.
