MMmmmmm....I want a 8.0 GHz single core something brand.
for do this the most easily you need approximativly a quadrocore with 3GHz each processor, then emulate from 3 of them a 8-9 GHz monocore system and here you are ;)
would be nice if it was possible at all...

Yeah, but sadly it's not possible to do.  :-\

Actually, you could probably get a custom chip designed and fabricated to specifications if you were willing to pay for it. Say, a couple million dollars for a single chip, more if you wanted a short run, much more (As in tens of thousands per chip) if you wanted to mass produce them. Also, the housing, motherboard, and cooling systems would probably be the size of a mini-fridge.

Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit version
AMD Phenom II 920 2.8GHz (Quad core)
4 GB of DDR2-1066 RAM
I'm not sure the video card matters much, but it's a pretty good one.

This computer is so new I've yet to install DF on it. It's zounds better than the one I upgraded from, which could run a 6x6 fort with 200 dwarfs at about 20 fps.

I'd be interested to hear how well the AMD does actually..

Started a 16x16 fortress in an area with 2 rivers, many many carp, and 2 4-level waterfalls. With the starting 7 dwarfs got 75 FPS except for hang-ups when, I assume, it was loading other bits of the map. This is unpaused, mind.

That sounds sweet.  I wonder how fast it drops later on though.

... Dude, nice computer... I'd say it'd be overkill if I was paying for it though..

I'm running a 16x16 Fort.

My dwarf population is at 55, 16 or so animals, and about 15 pages of wildlife.
Features: 65 z-levels.
              Brook
              Underground Pool
              Underground River
              Chasm
              Bottomless Pit
              Magma Pool
              Magma Pipe
              HFS

My FPS runs at 30~ (lower if I have a lot of verticle effecting mining designations).  It doesn't seem to vary much even if my dwarves are doing a lot of pathing.  Mind you, pathing is all they do, I'm making stone blocks and ash (for clear and crystal glass) out the ass.

I curently have my core 2 duo (2.66GHZ) overclocked to 2.95GHZ.  Tommorow I'll probably up it a bit, as the fan seems to be doing a good job of keeping it cool. (About 30 for the processor, 37 for ht board)

After I upgrade to 8GB of ram, I'll post 3D picks (I currently cap out at 48/65 with 4GB)

Other things to note: I'm running this fort on a Vista 64bit Ultimate

My embark groups name is thus:  Steelfists the Crystalline Destroyer, at the site of Crystalline Fortress. And believe me, that name never gets old, no matter how many times you read it.

I'm attempting my own 300 year Armok Megafort Project.  .... I'm currently on year 2.5

Edit:  Working on individual megaprojects before your asured survival spells certain doom.  Moreso when a human invader crossbowman with a max strength stat shoots your champions, and then proceeds to club your citizens to death.

So, sadly my Core i7 920 2.66 GHz rig isn't running DF much better than my C2D E6600 2.66 GHz rig... until the Turbo Boost kicks in, then the performance jumps like 10FPS (from 20 to 30 stable)

That's amazing.  I would get about 4 FPS maybe.

Dual Core 2.0 GHz.

[PARTIAL_PRINT:YES:2] is worth a look (and subsequent tweaking), then. Bumped my FPS from 6 with ~55 dwarves to ~30 FPS.

I tried that before, I have to put it insanely high or else everything flickers.  Doesn't increase my FPS any.  Using 40d11 works alot though.  Increased my 15 FPS fort to 20 FPS.  That's good enough for me.

I've noticed that it takes a while to save the game on this computer. I wonder why...

How large is the area you're in?   16x16?

Any size area takes a while. I didn't even try to save the 16x16 fort. I'm now in a 7x7.
