Profession change upon death
« on: October 08, 2006, 10:12:00 pm »

Currently when a dwarf dies, he is buried with his current profession as the one for which he will be forever remembered on the gravestone. I would prefer that my dwarves revert to their highest skilled profession when they die, rather than stay as whatever they were when they died. Instead of having lots of dead recruits in the legends files, I'll have carpenters and masons and miners labelled as such.

Perhaps it would make sense to have the legends and tombs reference both a Dwarf's civilian profession and their military rank, instead?

...it should only list dwarves as unskilled military ('recruits') or unskilled labor ('peasants') if they were actually in the appropriate category when they died, though.  It would be sort of silly to have every master mason also called a recruit on their tombstone, and every swordsmaster also called a peasant.

Doesn't strike me as silly. Dying in service of one's king and all that.
