I can understand the not wanting to do harm in any game actually...

I mean, when I used to play Fable: The Lost Chapters, I would never do evil in that game, never. I didn't have the heart to kill innocents.

However, that was before I got exposed to shock sites, ForumWarz, and guro. Now, I suddenly want to kill things for no reason in Elona, and I now laugh at said shock sites.

I still cringe though, when I accidentially kill a cat or something in Elona, on accident.

Then again, artificial life, whether it is intelligent or not, still has a right to live in my opinion. That includes all the sprites and characters in every video game ever made, because it is artificial, programmed to act a certain way, and lives in it's own little world.

So yeah,  I can understand not wanting to kill something that is alive in it's own little way. Killing things causes insanity, and many gamers are pretty weird.

And yes, I know, they are bits of code and pixel, but they are "alive" too.

Yet, that makes it their right to die as well. All things must die after all, due to a fact that immortality is non-existant in this reality. So yes, it is alright to go around killing artificial life.

And yet, it is not.

...

Sorry, I got only four hours sleep last night, and am feeling pretty philosophical. I blame Elona.

By definition, they are not alive. So you're ok there.

There is a difference between being good or evil, and being a jerk.

Punch an orphaned child, gouge out the eyes of an entire village, and throw them at aforementioned child.

Fine by me.

But taking the same orphaned child, ripping apart its doll, the only thing the child ever had to love, and forcefeeding it to him, is a no no.

One must have limits.  One must abide by contracts.  A distorted conscience can be worse than no concience at all.

The fact that you see a difference deeply disturbs me.

Ruin it for everyone, why don't you? Now I can't turn any of my games off. If I do, I'm suddenly committing mass genocide.

Hmm... so if turning off a game kills all the people, what happens when you uninstall the game? Or even worse, if you reformat your computer?

I'm guessing the same thing that happens should you blow up a corpse. Not much, really.

Hmm... if you look at it from another point of view: Each time your turn on a game, you activate a beacon of life with endless possibilities; simultaneously giving birth and purpose to countless lives within that realm. Though every time you shut down a game, you kill them all, the result is they will all come back to life again the next time you restart it.

However, by uninstalling the game, you kill all chance of hope and cut through this cycle of rebirth. It would be worse no, as you'd be killing all opportunity, instead of just lives.
