Obligatory response to title: I'm making a note here.

Huge Success.

Damnit, Fossaman beat me to it.

You could test the effects of a catapult or balista on goblin bodies by dropping prisoners into a narrow passageway ending in a fortification with a siege weapon on the other side.  Wouldn't be too hard to make I dont think, and you would have a nice gory passageway to revel in.

Well, it's a fresh day, I'll see if I can get dwarf 3D pics of my towers and I'll probably work on the siege weapon idea, sounds fun.

Also, I'll try 40d11 later, hopefully get some fps increase.

Well, here's some pics of my towers. First, 3d:

And with pretty colours:

Unfortunately my beautiful gold path is covered in blood as a goblin escaped and started slicing up my metalsmith. He met a sticky end at the hands of my marksdwarves who were sorely disappointed not to see him fall...

It is a total pain in the butt, but you gotta do what you gotta do if you want that upright candy weapon.
Your suspicions are nothing more than superstition

Ah I'm beginning to love this site. I've just found a magma pool and I already have a magma pipe. Thinking about using the pool a resevoir for a one-time flood the world with magma and death machine. Pools don't regenerate their magma right?

Also, my toad has disappeared, perhaps he finally decided it was time to end it

No, but you could use the magma pool as a 'buffer' for the pipe. This way you'll have more magma at hand when you need it.

Think I might make an optional magma death at the bottom of my execution tower. Also, I need a fun way to dispose of nobles.

I like the idea of spike traps but as I understand it, the problem is getting them to be extended then retracted repeatedly right? I might try to think up some crazy complex machine that'll do that

If I understand the wiki correctly you can set the "pull lever" task on repeat, making the dwarf stand then and keep flicking the switch on and off.

Yeah, but I like automation. If I can have a spike trap repeatedly going on and off at the flick of one lever I'll have a auto goblin grinder. Another question, can I link a single pressure plate to multiple spike traps? If so I could have a room full of them :)

I've built it! It's a little slow but adding another pump would increase the speed. The spike retracts and extends regularly, now I just need to hook it up to another few pumps and a lot more spikes and I'm on a winner :D
