Where to?
Go right, and into the tent, and KICK the chest, and you'll FIGHT!
Aw, puppies! These are like the vector pups before, except slightly stronger, they still run away when there's only one though.
Oh, look at this!
This is the other one of Interceptor's moves. The first, and weaker, of his moves is "Takedown" and his second stronger attack is "Wild Fang", he'll use either randomly.
The strength of this attack is evident.
You get a next-to-useless star pendant out of the deal.
You can talk to the one guard that's roving about to get into an easy fight also.
Anyway, let's continue downward!
CUTSCENE!
Leo: Pft! We'll wait then!
Soldier: But, you know, we could charge them...
Leo: Yeah right! I'm kind and humane and stuff! Like I'd do that! Get outta here!
One odd anomaly here that barely anyone notices is that a soldier goes into the tent there and, if you watch, never comes out. Now, when you regain control of your character and go inside the tent, you'll find that
he's not there! This leads me to believe that there is a secret trapdoor somewhere in that tent, or the Empire is populated by wizards.
Fuck, I gotta fight wizards now!
Yeah, he's a pretty nice guy. I guess...
That must be some HELLA potent poison if only a little bit can dangerously contaminate an entire river.
Boksi: Hey, he's using devious and underhanded tactics to win a war! What nonsense! We have to stop him!
Kefka: Huh? Silence! You're history, bub... (his actual line)
So we hit him once and...
Kefka: Yeeoch! Time to get outta here!
Boksi: Kefka! Wait!
Kefka: "Wait" he says.... Do I look like a waiter? (also his actual line)
*Kefka runs away*
So, anyway, Kefka runs a few feet away from us and then stands there, waiting for us to talk to him again, but we're not gonna talk to him, instead, we're gonna search the base and plunder it's goodies.
There's really only two more things to snatch.
One's the mithril glove (casts protect when at low hp IIRC)
and you'll want to heal up before checking out the other one because...
MONSTER-IN-A-BOX! Who puts monsters in boxes, really?
Telstar! He's a pretty tough flying robot thing with a few clever tricks up his sleeve actually.
General Strategy: keep using your strongest attacks on him.
When you burn so much of his hp, he does this...
He calls some weak grunts to come help him. Don't worry about them, at all, just keep focusing your attacks on Telstar.
Also, you'll notice Boksi is beet red, that's because Telstar has an attack called "Megazerk" that'll attempt to berserk everyone in your party. It's not a guaranteed hit though, so don't worry.
Alright, when you finally kill him, you get...
A green Beret! A very good piece of armor for this stage of the game. I'll be putting that on Boksi.
Now, just keep chasing Kefka around and he'll keep doing the same thing over and over.
You will have to fight one normal fight though when he escapes for real.
No, we couldn't stop him!
"What?! Oh no! and we just scheduled for everyone to drink the river water at the same time! I must go check on the king!"
"It's me king!"
"Pah! Don't worry about me, I'm a goner, go check on your wife and kids or something."
"You're right! Elayne! Owain!"
How sad! He didn't get that treasure chest!
Now, in the next scene, you'll see IWM and some soldiers clashing together with distinctive clink-clanks. There's a couple interesting things you can do in this scene.
Firstly, if you stand inbetween them and talk to IWM...
Next, if you're fast, you can stand in the same place as one of the soldiers and screw up their fight dance.
Next, if you attempt to head towards Doma Castle, you'll get this message:
And if you attempt to go anywhere else, you'll get this message:
It makes the point VERY clear on what path the game expects you to take.
Anyway, let's just talk to him normally and get this over with.
IWM, never forgetting his manners, even when he's on a roaring rampage of revenge.
These fights are interesting, because IWM isn't a controllable character. Instead, he's an NPC that attacks randomly. He doesn't have access to any items though.
Anyway, you'll have to fight a couple fights like that, and then the formal introductions begin.
Boksi: Hey, I'm King Edgar's brother, nice to meet ya.
IWM: and who'th is'th that stranger'th?
Boksi: Oh that's Inaluc. Just a wandering badass that's tagging along for some reason or other.
IWM: Well thank you'th, I be'th IWM, RETAINER TO DOMA!
Boksi: Uh, that's cool, let's get outta here, alright?
IWM: Alright'eth.
Let's hijack these MECHA!
Anyway, we're all in mecha now, and we can't use any of our special abilities now, but we get stronger attacks, and free healing!
Plus, we finally have IWM has an official party member, let's check out his stuff.
Good enough.
As much as I'd like to stomp around in these mechs and do untold amounts of damage, the game won't let us. We gotta follow this one single path that's just wide enough to let us through.
AND we gotta fight some pissant enemies along the way!
Geeze! It's like they don't appreciate us breaking into their base, killing their men, stealing their things, and then fostering their last enemy survivor.
I know I appreciate it.
IWM: Just keep heading South... through the SPOOKY HAUNTED FOREST!
