No clue yet... I did some digging under the obsidian formation to the south hoping it'd be that easy, but no such luck.

Of course, this map is covered with lignite and coal, so there's plenty of time to find the magma.

Edit: Oh, but there's a much larger obsidian group to the southeast! Checking that out now.

Edit2: Oops. Magma isn't there either, but the bottomless pit is just S-SE from that middle valley.

Sweet, thanks, SenorOcho.  I think the underground pool should be somewhere under the lignite/coal vein you found in the northwest square.

If this all doesn't fix it, your dwarfs are lazy. Apply magma.

Try rubbing a cat on it, that seems to help.

Oops, yeah, there it is. Directly beneath it, in fact.
A lizardman jumped out and attacked the random farmer I had putting a door in place to block it off, and she totally strangled it without taking a scratch. Crazy.  :o

Unless you consider using the embark map a cheat, you can find magma with 4 shafts.

Region icons are each a separate biome, and each 48 tiles across (you can call them 50 for quick navigation, 5x <shift+direction>.  If you find the approximate center of that biome mega-square, and dig a shaft 10 tiles to the NW, SW, NE & SE, you're bound to hit it.  It's just too big to miss otherwise.

Erm, yeah... I've found it already.

Only thing still hidden is the HFS, and what exactly I want to do with the pit and the pool.  ;D
For some reason I keep forgetting that the magma is a pipe and not a pool, I feel like I should be flooding something with that, too...

Edit: Also, if I have magma, wtf am I going to do with over 200 units of coke? What CAN I do with this when the map has no flux? Hm.

You already made that clear - but maybe next time it won't be such a challenge.

How about this one?

The soil in hte heavily wooded area is White Sand, covering a layer of Limestone. Water may become an issue and the cliffs are quite mild all over, only 2s and 3s, but I think this one fits me quite well. :)

I just uploaded a site to the DFFD that may meet your needs.  Has sand, magma pipe, lots of sedimentary layers, fun stuff, a hidden magma pipe, cave pool (not river, sorry, but does have a brook), and bottomless pit.  Without using any cheats, you can see bauxite and magnetite everywhere, and there are plenty of trees on the left side.  It is savage, though.

Enjoy!

I'm having trouble finding the sand, just a sandy loam wall.  Haven't had much time to play though.  Maybe I'm looking in the wrong place.

I don't suppose anyone feels like finding a similar site for the Dangerous Wilds mod (Dark Elves, latest version)? :-X

I have noticed a rather mixed reaction with microcline, but what do people think of olivine?
Oh I love olivine.  I think dark green furniture makes the fortress tasteful.
Wait, what?

Have you tried the seed?  Sometimes they work across mods.

Isn't the soil to the left pretty much all sand?

No, it's sandy loam, as evidenced by the . , ' ` floor. The double-tildes are murky pools.

Toady, how much of DF is inspired by Labyrinth? Is Armok actually David Bowie? Because that would simultaneously be disturbing and awesome.

I have a mod i can install that lets me use sandy loam in glass production, but I would rather keep my gave vanilla if possible.  If not, I can install it since I love this site way too much :D.

You made me actually open the game to look... That's not sandy loam, its loamy sand.  ;D
Oh well.
