Well, I'm reading it now,  used 'these days' seeing as people are pessimistic these days. More so then in the 90's.
Also, Micheal Crichton has some amazing abilities to predict the future and knowledge of cutting edge technology (back then).

Ninja edit- Evolution is not just about body structure. It's about behavior as well which is exactly what the quote is about.

Mankind doesn't care about anything anymore.
Mankind has been unhappy recently. They had to endure the death of another. They had to listen to somebody annoying lately. They were inspired recently. They had to put up with corruption lately. They complained about horrendous living conditions lately.

Goodness, that would be the size of Portugal or something.

When I think about it, Switzerland would be a better place. They just need all the outside area to be considered a dining room and seal the country with walls and doors to improve quality and prevent overlapping borders from dropping the quality.

And while having Portugal as the room would ensure enough grapes and olives for all of our wine and oil needs, Switzerland provides chocolate, wealth and international neutrality. It also looks more awesome and has no coastlines to muck around with.

Did somebody call for a spurious and poorly planned waterfall to generate soothing mist?

We already have one, in fact, we already have one for our planned dining room.

We'll have to move all the workshops out of Switzerland though, to keep the quality as high as possible.

Did you just post a bunch of vegi-dicks on my board?  I've been trying to combat forum devolution a bit, and that involves fewer vegi-dicks!

Only around here would you fine plans to turn Switzerland into a giant dining room.

On a more serious note, rapid and pervasive communication promotes the lowest common denominator.

"The internet is stupid and I'm the only one that isn't!"
Summed up that argument without all the big words :)

Seriously though, there's all kinds of non-uniformity on the net. It's up to the individual to find it or create it. I personally think that humans tend to resist that sort of mass connectionism, if only out of practicality. That's just my own experience - I can't really handle communicating on a personal basis with more than a small group, which is why I don't post very often. I talk in a closely knit IRC channel of friends from across the country, and even there conversations tend to fragment into two or three people going at it at the same time with several observers.

That said, does anyone else have the urge to make a virus that twitters for people using a decentralized database of random "tweets" taken from the infected's page?
