Malaysian Kids Set New LAN Party World Record

Last year, 203 attendees at Nvidia's Nvision '08 set an official Guinness world record for the world's longest LAN party, clocking up 36 hours of non-stop gaming. That record has now been broken.

Over the weekend, 300 kids at the Cyber Fusion 2009 event in Malaysia set a new mark (a new "official" one, at any rate), bringing not only more gamers, but managing to play for 40 consecutive hours.

The most-played games over the weekend were Team Fortress 2 and titles from the Quake and Unreal Tournament series, while organisers also spotted a few users grinding away on their WoW accounts during quieter moments.

Yes, I'm only posting this because it's my home country.

...

...

I'll bet you 80% of that was DoTA.

Anyway, my record for consecutive gaming was around 50+ hours. The first time I touched Medieval 2, to be precise. I skipped 3 days of classes and only went to the washroom 4 times. I lost around 8kg from that... No food and only two bottles of water. I also caught a cold and was stuck in bed for the next 2 days. That caused me to miss two midterms and be in deep shit.

Edit: The other major marathon session was when I first got my Wii and played Twilight Princess. I didn't stop until my batteries ran out (went to the washroom once). It was around 30 something hours I think.

I have all-nighter LAN's quite often (Try to get one in every fortnight), A couple of times even playing constantly from Friday after school to Sunday evening, 4PM Friday-> 8PM Sunday before we all crashed. That's about 52 hours altogether, mostly play FPS which I get sick of cause I am so bad at them and have to run on the lowest graphical settings. On that note, anyone know of any good 4-6 player Co-Op LAN games, currently we play Rainbow 6 Vegas, A Doom 3 mod, A FEAR mod and SWAT 4. But playing those every fortnight gets kind of repetitive.

Colour me cynical, but I have difficulty believing that 4-6 people can game continuously for 52 hours straight every fortnight.

He did qualify it with "a couple of times".  My friends and I have achieved similar feats with Star Wars Battlefront and City of Heroes.

Now this is quite impressive  :o...I've visited many LAN events in the last couple of years in Europe [as a player & spectator also], and it can be very tiresome.

Were the games pirated? These are the questions I want answered!

It says during quieter moments. Haha, I'm pretty sure it was DoTA too. Malaysians are DoTA fanatics. Few days ago, had a LAN party here in Sydney at Malaysia Hall, with around 20-30 people, lasted till sunrise. DoTA of course.

And pretty sure they were pirated too. Which is probably the main reason why only Malaysians would break that record XD

Sadly, only L4D comes to mind for me. And I've been searching quite some time.

Barbarossa: I'm betting you there was a lot of DoTA. They just don't mention it because it doesn't sound so official when the game you're playing is just a custom map for Warcraft 3. It's kinda like how WoW is so popular in the US, DoTA is way more so everywhere else.

WoW is also extremely popular in Europe.  ;)

That's actually kind of weird that you should post this. A person I knew in the game EVE Online (If any of you play that) died while hosting a LAN party last week. Apparently, he stepped on an exposed cord, and the electricity stopped his artificial heart.

And thus did the dream of dwarven antigravity fade away, not with a massive explosion or a flood of magma, but with a whimper.

I'm going to be depressed all day now.
