yeh but noone has actually done it.
yeah, nobody before you thought of combining bridges, pressure plates and water. you should get a patent for that.
there's quite a bit of stuff like that on df map archive. off the top of my head is addition in binary up to 8 bits and a 7-segment display.

was that sarcasm? noone has thought of it but there is stuff about it on the wiki?

The thing is, what happens to a dwarf that is on the bridge when it automatically retracts? But I would separate the mechanisms from the bridges, it is lazy, but I prefer just digging a series of floodgates and pressure plates as a timer...

Strange things happen on retracting bridged, mainly evryone moves 2-3 levels sideways and then hits the ground.
