I know an anime that all those who hate anime should like.

Bobobo Bobobobo (3 bo's, space, then four bo's)

It's pretty much The Tick, but for Japanese anime instead of American superheroes.  So, it's making fun of anime, really.

A sure sign that it's a good satire is that people who love anime hate it.

Alternately: The Brick Testament. It's a really fun look at what the bible would look like if interpreted literally. With Legos.
Just so I remember

You forgot the final sentence on the last one.

"And batshit-crazy violent."
Which, FMA?  It's not that violent.  Only a few people get messily splattered in, like, the whole season.

Meh, FMA's anime is fairly decent, but the manga, in my opinion, is better.  The plots are completely different after a certain point, so it's probably a personal thing.

One series I really enjoyed the first time I watched it was Trigun.  It's sort of a western staged in a psudo post-apocalyptic society.  I really enjoyed the character development, though the philosophical message may conflict wildly with many people's opinions.  Plenty of gun-fights, interspersed with a little humor.

As far as movies go, I really enjoyed Akira.  It's really the first true anime film in the style that persists today.  Motorcycle gangs and giant mutants make up for the sometimes wierd plot.

My niece has a fetish for Anime.

I really don't see what's so fun to watch about chicks with large breasts having unusual reactions to some pretty regular stuff. In reality, it seems more pornographic.

Though, I gotta admit that chick on Hellsing had rather large ones. Maybe it's just me, but when the main attraction of your cartoon is the pornography value of it, something is wrong.

Yes, it can be more generic.

Actually, I watched the anime first, then read the manga.  And my opinion still stands.

It depends.

Usually the original source of the series is the best one.

Really depends on what you like...

Details on your favorite genre would help.
Hard science fiction is what I like...

And Star Trek, and Stargate... don't watch much else.
I'm not sure if you like hard sf or space operas more.
If it's the first, as in: "weird but mostly scientifically viable, cerebral stuff", then I'd recommend Texhnolyze and would second Ergo Proxy. These are both very complex and detailed sf, with some metaphysics thrown in for a good measure. The second one is probably trying a bit too much, but it's still a very interesting show.
There's also the Ghost in the shell franchise, which is a pure sf, cyberpunk cop flick. There's a couple movies and a series, made by different people with somewhat different approach.
If on the other hand you preffer space operas, as in:"adventure and drama happening in a generally sf environment", then I'd say Cowboy Bebop and Planetes. Keep in mind that both of these keep their action bound in the solar system, so they're not exactly Star Trek-like. Planetes is especially science-abiding, apparently they hired some people from Japanese Space Agency(or something) and it shows.

Well, I'm more into the episodes of those series that deal with the philosophical implications of alien life and interplanetary travel. >_>

Technically not a person, but when the Homunculi are created and Al is basically turned into a heap of slagged iron.

It seems that a lot of people must like "Ghost in the Shell" because I keep hearing it in reference, but I found the movie boring and incomprehensible.

The movie and the TV show (GitS: Stand Alone Complex) are quite different. I enjoyed the TV show more: much more time for plot development, better-told and deeper story, more action, less incomprehensible. You might look into that if you liked the concept of cybog police doing quasi-legal stuff and thinking about the meaning of being human, but didn't understand the movie.

Having a bit of philosophy background definitely helps, though.
