So this morning my computer started running slower then usual, (30fps with only 12 dwarfs!), so i went on a quest to find out what the cause was. I deleted all the spywares from my computer. but that didn't help. Then i searched online and found out that slowness can be caused by a full hard drive so i go to check 150 MB free space, 180 GB Used. Looks kinda misleading due to the numbers. but my HD was full to capacity.
So i only use this computer for 3 things, Internet, Dwarf fortress and Porn. So i go to my porn folder to find out how big it is. IT is 60 GB with over 100,000 files. ???BUT WHAT ABOUT THE OTHER 120 GIG??? I reallized that my recycling bin had been deleted (as in it doesn't have a shortcut icon to it anymore) so i thought maybe i had a 120 gig in deleted file backup things. So i went online to find out how to get it back. It ends up i have to mess with my reg files. I open it up... and no luck. only 3 gigs of deleted file caches.
SO now i try my search and destroy tactic where i select a folder and click on properties to see how big it is. I find my documents and settings folder, 80gig. JACKPOT!! I search deeper and I see that the answer had been right under my nose the whole time: my desktop has 60 gigs on it and i find a folder with incomplete limewire files that had 20 gigs on it. I look on my desktop to see which folder contained all the junk.
It was Dwarf Fortress!! The least likely of all suspects! Apperently the jpg files for the map export are humongous (22.7 MB a piece times about 20 levels per fort times about 10 forts times however many exports i do (i like to have an overall view of my fort on a large scale) = alot of disk space
So there ends my quest. I hope some of you will heed this advice and I hope that the others won't laugh to hard.
