How could they arm their ships? I'm fairly sure that it's against most international law.
nm, some have been escorted by the navy recently.
Bullshit about them affecting Somalia positively, sure they bring in one million everyone now and again but it isn't helping Somalia, at all.
Oh its more then that, and in a poor country like Somalia it all counts.
They attacks ships bringing food aid to Somalia and surrounding countries
Yes, and with the loot they steal many people can afford their own food.
and drives Somalia deeper, and deeper into lawlessness.
Thats fine, their lives are better.
Sure they're getting more money, but that is only in the short term.
Its helping people, and as long as piracy stays there will be money for them.
The money for long term infrastructure and services is being waster on more guns and more boats.
Yeah, you have to spend money to make money. But it is better they spend it on something that acctualy makes a diffrence anyway.
Then there is the nasty business of the high possibility of being killed by various military forces.
And the pirates are the bad guys here? They have stolen money, these guys are going to come in and kill tons of people for it.
Attacking cruise liners and yachts is helping the third world?
Yes, they are helping, yachts and cruise liners are worth alot of money. Much more then "one million everyone now and again"
Please. These pirates aren't attacking a countries ships, they're attacking ships the belong to multi-national corporations, hardly a powerful nation.
I know the united states and france have hunted pirates, and pirates have attacked a indian warship some time ago from what I've read.
Its not like they wouldent get attacked by other countrys, I dont expect anyone to turn a blind eye on pirates. Im not really mad at them either, its their job.
They help out too little to justify their actions towards innocent workers.
They dont kill them, how does that sound? The "innocent workers" are just a bargaining chip, the pirates themselves are in more danger then the workers anyway.
I think cowofdoom is arguing for the sake of argument here.
No, I think that pirates are being demonized unjustly by people. Probably becuase of the overwhelming amount of negative media against them. They arent even close to being as evil as they are shown.
My first guess is most crews just don't want to turn a hijack attempt into a fight to the death just to save their employer some ransom money.
The soldiers sure do.
Oh and one other thing Jon, what about the
illigal(noted for the fact you hold this of great importance) polution of the somalian waters? I see you dont have any moral qualm about poisioning a third world countrys waters but when a few yachts go down its terrorism?
