Probably mentioned before, ants come to mind.

I think it would be useful, fps-wise, if every tile a dwarf traverses on a route became a higher traffic area, so that dwarves would automatically favour high traffic areas (in a non-designated sense). That way fps would take a lesser hit for common activities, and a greater hit for only for oddities.

I mean this seperately from manual designation, it would be absurd to use those values in this case.
