The blue point items increase your score in two ways. The total number you collect works as a multiplier at the end of the level- if you're playing with a normal number of lives per continue this ends up significant but if you've got max lives the down multiplier really dampens it.
The second is the immediate point increase. If the "number" that floats off it is yellow you got the maximum value for that token, which is to say you collected it closer to the top of the screen. Once your power is max you can collect all the items on the screen by flying up to about the top 5th of the screen, which also means max points from the blue tokens.

There are some other mechanics from game to game but if you master the 6th one (probably what your trial is of,) you can play the rest at a high level.
Well, except maybe shoot the bullet. Playing that one has turned me stupid about the actual levels leading up to a boss.

Well, I'm currently getting Touhou Soccer because of the massive overkill. Watch, for example, this. It might sum up the game specifically and Touhou in general.

At first when I saw Touhou soccer it seemed like they were pulling out those spellcards and such rather lightly compared to the games but then I got the english patches and ya, they seem to pretty much use them like that, except with more hospital visits.

After the first time of making it to Nitori in Mountain of Faith, I can conclude that her first spell card is HELL. The rest of the fight is hell on speed.

I never could get my hands on MoF :arghfist:, so I went from IN straight to playing SA, and Holy Friggin' Christwagons I got my rear-end handed to me so hard.

Anyone find the latest UNL patch? And is Youmu fixed yet?

Holy crap!

I want to play it too. Especially since a recent livestream involved the game it was based on. I'm definitely getting it and adding it to my list.

Oh, and the Scarlet Sisters are definitely hired.

You obviously haven't seen some of the pictures of Eirin experimenting on Reisen Clones and Mokou.
