Aw, damnit, this makes me look like a noob, but I'm not quite at my optimum atm. If my highscore shows its clear I'm better than it looks from the vid.

Well ya, if you can avoid running into the bullets from the little guys as you collect powerups and points you can quite a way in just by blowing bombs when the patterns get hard.

I think I'll try to get a decent replay to show off sometime this weekend.

I thought the Touhou games were about two little girls having a tea party together.

(But one of the girls eats human flesh, and the other has slaves.  That's okay, right?)

Uh, I'd like to try downloading a demo for the first one, but I can't make heads or tail of the Embodiment of Scarlet Devil page.  Partly because the characters seem to have suddenly become random accented letters rather than a coherent language (probably my computer displaying it wrong).  Um, can anyone help by providing a link to the official demo?

EDIT: Ok, got it to translate, although of course into standard google translator English ("The main difference between trial version and trial version until there is only three terms (six retail side face +1) BGM WavExtra Start, Practice Start  BGM, the trial version can not use the trial version of Wav Extra Start, Practice Start can not select" - erm, what?) but can't find a way of opening the strange file type of the trial.

Could someone list links to the trial versions?

They look interesting, but there are language issues that even google cannot fully solve.

Don't worry, Indonesian, I've just made an EosD replay as well, where I actually get past the third stage. (But don't even reach Stage 4 Midboss...)

MarisaB was used, for the bomb. ;) I also perform horribly against (9), I always get nailed by Icicle Fall. :(

If you dare to laugh... I'll so rip your head off and see you do better.

Downloaded the first demo and I've been enjoying it, even if I've already died twice.  I have a few questions, however:

1. What is the difference between the two characters you can choose?  I can see one is balanced while the other specialises, but I don't know what the stars represent.
2. When I die, what do the two options mean?  The first time I died I hit the first option and it sent me to the highscores, where I spent several minutes working out how to input my name and exit them, but the second time I died it didn't seem like there was anything I could do to go back to the main menu (neither option seemed to do anything when selected).
3. What are those weird blue powerup type things?  I can't tell if they're good or bad or what they do.
4. What do the two options after difficulty selection mean?  I've just been randomly clicking on the first one.

Oh, and for the record, my least favourite type of bullets are the ones that randomly change direction as they come towards you.

1. They have different attacks. Marisa - the one in witch garb - is also faster, while Reimu has a smaller hitbox. And different bombs and all that.
2. The first one is about whether you want to use a continue, the second whether you wanna save a replay.
3. They increase your score.
4. Your spell card and secondary shot type. Reimu usually gets one needle shot straight ahead (two crossing beams/circle bomb) and a homing amulet option (homing blasts of energy bomb), Marisa gets green projectiles of sorts (star bomb) and a laser (which has the MASTAH SPAAARK as a bomb - it usually blows away a very significant portion of a bosses health bar)

Did you know that you can focus with shift? It is handy against bosses.

Thanks, that was helpful.  Managed to beat the first trial game on easy, although admittedly I just bombed the 3rd boss to death randomly.  I dread to think what the higher levels are like... is it just increased health for enemies or are the patterns changed?

Changed, more difficult patterns basically. For example, Icicle Fall (Easy) can be dodged by simply going in front of Cirno. Icile Fall (Normal) adds some yellow danmaku to the mix to make dodging more difficult.

The only reason to play Lunatic is losing lives to Cirno in PCB. It's probably fun at a party, too.

Got up to the second level's boss on lunatic.  Only because I used the huge bomb all the frickin' time (making sure I used all three before having to use a continue...)
