Aren't those two immortal? Sorta game breaking isn't it?
Then again, Suwako's in there too, a freakin GODDESS; a shinto goddess albiet but still.

Well, we still have Mystical Chain.

Well, Yukari is nearly immortal too, and has hax-level power.
Utsuho has a fuxxing NUCLEAR FUSION.
And Reimu has plot armour.
Oh, and... damn the rule: No extra character allowed... ME WANT MOKOU AND FLANDRE.

Edit: Forgot to mention that Flandre could easily cut any of the fighter open.
Immortality does not protect against wholesome destruction (remember, they still feel hurt, and still human, although not 'pure' human anymore)

So, what are the games like?

I think I understand the gameplay, or at least the basics of it, from reading/looking at the screenshot, but what about the series/games themselves? Are they free?

(Just want information not already mentioned)

Nope, not free.

Doujin games... some are free, some are not.
Touhou is not.

Download the demo first, so you may get the glimpse.
And... I can show you the nearest (and easiest) place to... "acquire" them.

The main series, 6-12, is danmaku. Or: Bullet hell, a subtipe of shoot-them-up. Hard.

The official spin-off series, IaMP (7.5), SWR (10.5), and Hisotensoku(12.3), are fighting games.
SWR is needed for Hisotensoku to function properly (Read: 19 chara, as opposed to... 4.)

There are many doujins, whether it's manga, games (Scarlet Symphony, MegaMari, Super Marisa World, etc etc etc), or music. And, the former and the last is... A LOT.

I recommend you scour YouTube for touhou remixes first.
I'll put a list of awesome music... sometime after this.

You know what's funny? ZUN said in an interview that he planned for Kaguya, Mokou, Wriggle, and Nitori to be in 12.3 but that they had to be scrapped because of time constraints.

And by funny I mean infuriating.

I have Touhous 1-9. Personally I like 6 the best.

Awesome music and challenge. Still trying to get the good ending so I can attempt battling Flandre. Any other shortcuts to get extra mode like hex editing or something?

I'm getting impatient about it.

Get better at grazing. And pattern predicting. I manage up to the Prismriver Sis's in PCB, but they wipe me clean. (Normal mode :( )

The sheer amount of Touhou doujins is amazing tho. I like Megamari especially.

Oh, and the music is awesome. My personal favorites are Sanae's, Nazrin's, Mokou's, Chen's, Reimu's Dream Battle (for the mood whiplash in the beginning) and Utsuho's... but you need to try very hard to find a song there that isn't good. ZUN's a god with music.

I'll have a go when I'm back on my main computer.  I've played a few bullet hell flash games, but this looks like something else.

Urgh, don't remind me, playing the Border team actually made me play every other Touhou game WORSE.
Oh, and... damn the rule: No extra character allowed... ME WANT MOKOU AND FLANDRE.
Why no <3 for Koishi? :<

That reminds me, Yuyuko is ALREADY dead isn't she? AND has the power to invoke instant death?

Ultra Shot plot summaries:
-Embodiment of the Scarlet Devil-
Remilia: I will... block out the sun!

Hong Meilin: No entry!
Patchouli: My health isn't any good.
Sakuya: You're making a mess.
Flandre :They keep me locked in the basement.

-Perfect Cherry Blossom-
Where's all the spring at yo?

Chen: You shouldn't be here.
Alice: Lovely weather eh?
Prismriver Trio: We won't be opening this door.
Youmu: I'm gonna bloom that tree.
Yuyuko: Oh the tree was sealing me.
Yukari: Now I'm thinking with portals.

-Imperishable Night-
Hey that moon is a phony!

Keine: I'm in your base protectin your villagers.
Reisen: Visiting hours are over.
Eirin: Aha! My combo is complete!
or Kaguya: I've been hiding.
Mokou: First Kaguya makes me unkillable and now she's always sending people to kill me.

-Phantas Flower View-
Weird flowers.
Shikieki : This always happens when Komachi has been slacking.

-Shoot the Bullet-
Aya: We don't even talk, they just shoot at me and I take pictures presumably for the news.

-Mountain of Faith-
Hey you're encroaching on the Hakurei shrine's turf!
Aya: It's the rules so I have to fight you, don't worry I'm throwing this fight.
Sanae: Our Shrine is better.
Kanako: I'm a God, not like those silly demons you play with.
Suwako: Heh, I'm really the God with power here. She just balances the budget.

-Subterranean Animism-
Oh noes! The hotsprings!
Yuugi: I'm drunk and that means it's time for fightin
Satori: I finish all of your sentences.
Rin: After the boss kills you I'll eat you up, oh wait you'll be burnt to ashes so I'll just eat you now instead.
Utsuho: I ate a sun-raven so now I'm causing lots of nuclear problems.
Koishi: I'm looking for those gods that caused all of this.
(Suwako: Oh, Kanako thought giving the kappa nuclear power would spark technological advances. How'd that go?)

*Last of each of those is the extra stage character so that happens after the main issue has been resolved.

So I managed to unlock up to stage 10 in shoot the bullet recently but the near 20 more boss completions required to get into the extra stages is probably going to stand in my way for a long time. I'm better at weaving now but I still go into rapid response and poor judgment mode much too easily and go flying into lone bullets off in the middle of nowhere.I'm also probably too inconsistent in my movements so I've got a long way to go before I can get very far on lunatic modes.
I very nearly managed to get through 6's normal mode without continues once but then I tried to stop using bombs altogether and lost the ability to trigger them to save my ass very well.

I forget, doesn't grazing add to the power you gain to the point of clearing the screen? I haven't put enough practice into it; the patterns start getting a little too crazy for me to get a good sequence down. Whether fast or slow moving.

Oddly enough, I have more trouble with the slower shots than the fast ones.

I'm fairly sure that in general grazing doesn't do anything special aside give you points, except for game-specific exceptions. Grazing in IN gives you time if your meter is >%70 youkai, and in SA is charges a thingy that autocollects once it fills. In PCB it increases the cherry meter if you graze during a border event. And in MoF it doesn't do anything at all.

And yeah, slower shots tend to mess me up more often than fast ones. The fast ones draw my eye, so I don't notice the slow ones if I'm trying to get out of the way. Slam right into 'em.

But yeah, I'm a loser at danmaku, but I still pwn my friends. Malayans are not made for danmaku. ... Chinese and Japanese are :P

Sorry for the DP, but I want to ask something.

Do anyone interested to share their replay?
Here, I got one http://www.mediafire.com/?r=rqpfz , it's for IN (Toho 8)

I'll probably salvage my other replays...

Come on, share them! Don't be shy, we are all noobs until otherwise notified.

I've got enough Japanese blood to say that the only way to get good at these involves dieing over and over to the point you'd bankrupt yourself if it cost a quarter each game, and that's really just hard mode. If you want to do lunatic you'd better learn to juggle irregular objects first just so you can start to handle that much trajectory-thinking.

Actually, manages to reach stage 4 in IN's Luna.

STAGE 4.

FU**ING STAGE 4.

And... managed to defeat Keine, and reached Mokou, in Extra (got it from the Internet).

Of course, that was eons ago (Though my cousin has already finished PCB ... ::))
