 I would not mind such a topic. Then random crap we are thinking about but does not warrant a new thread can go there, like people talking about avatars and such. Or planning things. Or whatever. As long as the posts have content of some sort, it belongs in that thread.

I don't think there should be a VN or a thread for stupid stuff.  If you need a cathartic exercise to maintain a civil and intelligent conversation, you need to go back to kindergarten.

Thats a pretty extreme view, kindergarden doesnt really teach you how to maintain a civil and intelligent conversation. I mean I guess if it was "If you need a cathartic exercise to recognise shapes" or something...

I for one am happy that it's gone. Back when various nonsense was still light blue, the only topics you could find were about politics, avatars, recent events, etc. It was exactly like what the general discussion board is now. Then all the idiots showed up and spent hours making posts that could be basically summed up in "YOU'LL NEVER TAKE MY PENGUINS ALIVE PEW PEW PEW, LOL" and continuing that crap when posting in other boards, all the time insisting that it was "just for fun".
 If it never left VN, I wouldn't care, but whenever I see someone in a different section of the boards spamming idiotic shit about about being the minister of cheese and saying in italics that they're going to sic their army of WH40k units at someone it makes me want to punch them in the face.
Hopefully with VN gone at least some of it will stop. Hopefully

Sometimes, that is just the mask we wear to be funny.  I, personally, have an army of mutant ninja squirrels that I try to conquer the world with.  If I said it in every post, then it would deserve scorn, but just once in a while is simply the spice of life.

As for starting a thread specifically to hold non-threadworthy-topics, just set some good rules.  The Forum Guidelines(which have already been referenced in this thread) say that if a thread starter sets reasonable rules, they should be followed.  Good rules are things like:

"All posts should have multiple, meaningful sentences. "

I can't think of any other rules worthy of setting, but violators should be threatened with Hammering.

Im sure avatar threads and such would be fine in GD, the problem seems to be that people were reporting too much to toady, probably from all the spam and "softcore"(so THATS what its called)-porn.

I am dissapointed. I never got a chance to even post in VN. But I suppose if Toady says it was turning into 4chan, he did the right thing by killing it, like moot should've done to 4chan once it started to get out of hand.

I think that it was more of a simple stupid image board that a full blown 4chan. I certainly noticed no one attempting to get others to commit suicide and there was a distinct lack of anti-semenism.
