The best thing you can do to properly utilize the seige weapons is to make a long narrow path that the goblins have to charge straight at them on. This way the goblins are in the direct fire path for a long amount of time. You can do this in two steps, utilizing your inner and outer walls. Channel the moat outside your fortress to make a long 3 wide path the goblins have to come down that's in line with the balistas, then once they get to the moat, turn them so they connect with your draw bridge.

Then inside the outer wall, line that dirt road there with walls so goblins are restricted to go along the fire area of the catapult before they can charge at your inner door.

You can also never go wrong with some archer towers with a clear view of the surroundings to rain death from above, and traps along the paths are always fun. Just some simple modifications can really make them work quite well.

Civ forge is a mod, look for it in the modding section, and, that's Maydays tileset and graphics set, it seems.

It's fun looking at other people's forts and seeing what they've done.
We all have so many different ideas when it comes to design and stuff.

My design is usually very rigid and efficient. It was the same with Simcity 4, and all my houses in The Sims.
Very cheap, small, and efficient.

In my current fort, I leaned a little away from efficiency and more toward interesting design. Something a little different.

Still going.
Hope I get sieges soon. You can tell I get a lot of ambushes.
The goblins just wade in and die though. It may not look like much, but nobody gets in this bitch.  :-*

Might as well join in this fun. Here are some old forts of mine (that haven't played in ages)

Firstly: Hammerlabored. http://mkv25.net/dfma/map-2452-hammerlabored
I think this was the first forth with that floorplan. It's also one of the first good ones I've done.
In addition to the floorplan it showcases another typical feature in my fortresses: excessive paranoia. Hell, even the ramparts are roofed over so that flying beasties can't attack.

Secondly: Torchbright. http://mkv25.net/dfma/map-3197-torchbright
This was a sort of a bloodline/cooperative effort with a friend of mine. I really should go back and finish this one. The map is simply awesome.

Thirdly: Scouredrazor. http://mkv25.net/dfma/map-3792-scouredrazor
Now this is my most successful fort so far. I only stopped playing because the fps was getting too low and for the lack of any challenge whatsoever. This fort had it all. Elaborate deathtraps for elvesgoblins, noble disposal facilities, queen with all her desires fulfilled... Perhaps it's lacking in crazy art.

I accidentally hit HFS >< I drafted everyone, gave them surplus weapons and armor and well...

I think 3 of mine are dead and about 3-4 of them are dead. I think my legendaries + [SPEED:1] makes them win.

EDIT:

I have 2 people who aren't resting :(

EDIT2:

Well.

One spirit of fire went to my entrance (I stumbled upon HFS outside my fort), started standing on my cage traps.. Doing.. I don't know. Anyway. This gave the final two time to seal up the entrance. Sealed it up, need 4 more walls to completely seal it up. Both my children died, I had sacrifice about 8 wounded to do this...

I love this game.

EDIT3: Scratch that, I have only one non-wounded guy left.

Not to toot my horn, lol, but my ancient fort (uploaded shortly before 3d) actually was one of the first of it's kind and inspired the castle type fort.

http://mkv25.net/dfma/map-367-boulerpeaceful

The actual name of the fort was Boulder peaceful but I miss spelled it lol.

Alright, since posting a fortress here seems to be the "Cool Thing".

http://mkv25.net/dfma/map-5264-shieldvalleys  (Its in a set)

know that i update this fort yearly, and that i am currently doing no challenge, though i am thinking of Hiding from the outside world.

Sadly, the FPS is unbearable on a 6x6 map.  Did pretty well.

I love the striped roads at Roofdwelling, and the intricate aboveground town structure.  Some of the other designs are interesting too; I really like seeing how other people lay out their workshop areas and training zones.  The OP's fort probably will need crowd-control traps to steer goblins into the siege weapons' kill zone.  Boulderpeaceful is fantastic, and really shows off the scale and scope that DF allows you to build on.

My fort? Well, there are two so-so forts in my sig, but my latest fort is heavily influenced by macro design -- the idea that rooms can have a functional shape but also be artistic when viewed on a map.  Whiteoak is in its seventh year now, with a bunch of pretty neat features... the giant Sword Hall, large circular rooms throughout, a Dining Hall / Dorm Complex that's just starting to look good, some cool noble housing sections down deep.  The downside to all this intricate tunneling is that it's 207 and I'm just now finally getting my forges set up.  I really need to have some dedicated refuse haulers who can take care of the dumping tasks so I can get back to slaughtering elves at 50 FPS.
