That's what I get for just skimming. I didn't see that it was already read-only.

My 800x600 problem existed before installing the mod. The mod's readme mentioned it and said they didn't fix it yet, so I assumed everyone else had the same problem.

Since you have saves, you probably shouldn't install it then. It adds a lot of stuff and removes some existing things. I wouldn't want you to load up your game in the middle of a firefight and suddenly find your weapon disappeared from your hands.  :P

I've also got the English version.

Ill try the mod with my next play through:-)

But for now I have a new problem. My quicksave's broke... I can press f5, it says it is quicksaving, but it doesn't... my quicksaves are still old ones. anyone?

EDIT:
Eeek, nvm, its not just quicksaves now! I'm not sure what I did but now every save I make is corrupt (it kindly even says so int he load screen)

EDIT2:
Bah got annoyed and just reinstalled. Works fine now.

EDIT3:
Again, talking to myself, but... Damn, I love this game

7.62!

Yes, the BFX mod (Or.. Blue Sun mod as of lately) is a very good choice. Considering it's pretty much the only mod out there (Hard Life is for the Russian version only, I believe).

Your problem is probably the most famous in the lands of 7.62. Apeiron, the suckers, apparently forgot to make the textures read-only.. and somehow the game sometimes manages to alter them so that they don't work anymore.

You should install the unofficial patch, which fixes quite a few things and crashes, including that stupid texture bug.
Link here.

As for savegame corruption: If you have more than.. approximately.. 30 saves in your savegame folder, it will start to corrupt. I've never had corrupted savegames. This is quite ironic, though, considering your best friend in 7.62 is the quicksave key. ;)

If all else fails:

1. Reinstall
2. Apply unofficial patch
3. Either play from here or install the Blue Sun / BFX mod (version 0.9 should be out soon).
4. Post on the Strategy First forums! The place is empty and dead :(

This thread sure could use a dust-off bump.

Does anyone else still play this?

R@S22 has posted his Blue Sun Mod 1.01 on his website (http://bluesunmod.webs.com/). It makes 7.62 a lot more fun.

A few months ago, some Russian guy that does stuff for the hardlife mod (whatever?) managed to find a way around the arbitrary item limit. Before, in order to add new weapons, the mod developer had to remove a ton of vanilla weapons. With this cap removed, about 4096 items can be added to the game. :O

Anyway, it seems like the Strategy First forums are down for good. The Apeiron website is dead as well. It is sad day, comrades!

While I WOULD play this again. Jagged alliance 2 with 1.13 and some INI tweaks is honestly better. Since it doesn't crash all the time and runs a ton smoother. If this was more polished though, it'd be better. It had an amazing ballistics model and just a nice realistic feel to the fights.

I played this for a while but I ran into a mission I can't seem to complete, so I can't progress, which is kind of annoying. It's the mission where you (after joining the rebels) have to rescue Tanya from El Vertigo (the prison). I find the hidden tunnel just fine, but when I sneak into the base that way, everyone immediately notice me when I get up into the prison yard, regardless of what uniform I have on, and yes, I came alone like the mission told me to.

Apparently there's a uniform that should enable you to bluff your way in, but I've tried every army and special forces uniform I have access to (private, sergeant, lieutenant and captain, I think) without any luck.

Any ideas?

It's a really neat game and I was just coming into the really nice hardware like grenade launchers and night-vision goggles :(

It's the Colonel's uniform. There are two in the game, I believe.

The guy you were sent to assassinate with a snake in a basket (the colonel at the police station) is wearing one. There is also one in a dumpster somewhere, but I can't tell you because the strategy first forums are down. I'll have a look in the game files to see where it's at.

Alternatively you could just go in guns blazing and take them down. That works, right?

Edit: Poked around and "Algeira police colonel uniform" is in .. SECRETBOAT1.ini
Where the hell that "secret boat" is, I don't know.

The mission-giving-guy tells me that they will kill Tanya if I go in guns blazing. If that's true is another matter entirely, though :p

The secret boat, being a boat (presumably), should be somewhere near water, which should narrow down possible locations somewhat. I think I'll go look for it, and if all else fails, try to go in guns blazing and see how that goes.

Thanks for poking around the .ini files, I really appreciate it.

I do know that a timer activates when you go through the tunnel, guns blazing. If you bluff your way through, the timer is not activated.
How long the timer is before they kill Tanya, I don't know. I suspect the same timer activates when you take the direct approach.

All right, guns blazing does not work  :-\

When going in alone I get murdered by a blob of 5-8 guards and more guards flanking from behind while I desperately try to shoot all the others charging me red army style.

When trying with six mercs I get shredded by the 8-10 snipers in the guard towers of the prison, since there's no spot that you can sit in cover, there's always some guy seeing you in a scope. Then they all have incredible grenade-throwing skills as well, being able to place a grenade at my feet from 25 meters away while being behind a wall.

It seems like I need that uniform. While searching the 'net for solutions I've read about a 'secret harbour', which seems like a likely place for a 'secret boat' to be. Is that just some exclusive new location to the Blue Sun mod? Or is it unlocked later at some point?

I've already looked in every crate in the Secret Harbour, but I haven't been able to find it. Maybe I just missed something.

In vanilla, in the Army Base (Very top left corner of the world map) is a dumpster with a secret map .. that will let you go to the secret harbour.
In BSM, there is a Librarian in Sagrada (I believe, either that or Campecino) which will sell you the map for 50k. It serves a lot more purpose in BSM, as in vanilla it's just an empty map with a lot of containers with goodies in them.

Is it not possible to go guns blazing through the tunnel with 6 men? When I did the mission for the government side, I went in through the tunnel with my team and managed just fine, easily killing a few guys and sneaking into the building. It also helps to go during the night with suppressors (and maybe some NVGs/Nightsights if available). I never tried it from the front..

If all else fails, you can set the cgl to something lower, and put it back up after the mission .. I'll upload the tool with instructions if necessary (you can increase the cgl through console, but you can't decrease it.

Going through the tunnel with 6 men won't work since the snipers start shooting as soon as you enter the map, giving you no time to get to the ruins.

I saw you posted on the 1C forums asking about the uniform. Hopefully that will help. I'll probably keep trying new tactics in the meantime.

Even at night you get cut down?

Also, try deploying smoke. It really helps, if you need to get a cross to the main building from the tunnel "house" exit.
