Massvely Single Player Game

This Gamasutra article includes a fascinating look at what a multi player Dwarf Fortress would look like.

I've thought that a feature like that in DF would be great (and I'm surely not the only one). It's challenging to have the computer generate interesting and varied towns/dungeons/fortresses/ruins, but players do that all the time. The idea would be pulling their creations into a master "levels" server - or a peer-to-peer network of DF clients - and placing them in other people's games during the world generation.

I'd love that. :) Or just some way to download and add in player made fortresses after worldgen.

That article called Spore awesome; everything it says is henceforth subject to scrutiny and mocking.

[Healthcare Update Thread] Personally, I can't wait for doctors to get possessed and start surgically attaching axes to champion soldier's arms.

In the most basic sense, it is awesome, in that in inspires awe. At least, in a few specific things. The ability to generate planets from very small packets of data, and all that good stuff.

Unfortunately Sturgeon's Law, “Ninety percent of everything is crap”, applies to player-created content, and that is without factoring in griefers purposefully making undesirable content, which shifts the Law closer to "Ninety percent of everything is genitalia".

I suppose if we had some way to filter out all of the penismen, penis swords, penis towers and penis roasts made from minced penis, minced penis, finely minced penis and minced penis, the rare high quality player content might make up for the overwhelmingly bland majority.

Isn't this what Elemental trying to do?
Perhaps niche is the defining factor here?

I am shocked and disappointed to find such bigotry on these forums. I am proud to be a Repton-American.
