Bring on the blood suckers!!!!
« on: April 07, 2009, 09:43:27 pm »

DF needs vampires (or if it does, better ones). Goblins that have fallen under control of a vampire wont destroy your fort, they will enslave everything and use it as a vassal kingdom to feed off. Monarchs and nobles can also be vampires, either very secretive or right out in the open(possibly tyrants). Vampires would make good fighters because of the difficulty to kill them. And no-one would think it is strange that the vampire dwaves wouldnt go outside because they would just say that they have severe cave adaption. Possibly implemented when magic is.

Well maybe instead of burning in the sun they should just glitter slightly.

Anyhow... No Vampires arn't waiting until the Magic Arc (Why do people assume EVERYTHING supernatural is waiting until the magic arc? Spells are waiting for the magic arc... pretty much period...) They are waiting for Curses to be worked on again which is in the current development (though it probably won't get to vampires just yet)

People are so misinformed.
Vampires were never afraid of the sun, that's just a myth that Buffy started, I think.
The original Dracula says NOTHING about vampires and the sun.

Oh, I dunno.  A purple, bloated undead rotting creature that sucks blood out of people's ears via it's nose could be interesting...

It just doesn't need the pansy-arse pretty faced, pale-and-lovely hypnotists that modern media seems to love so much.

Vampires have always struck me as classy undead.  They would be useful (along with others like liches and necromancers) for organizing undead into organized forces or even entities.  As someone else said, they could also hide their curse, and try to continue to live among their race.  They also seem totally period-appropriate.

Depending on how souls are distributed among the living and undead, and how magic develops, DF vampires could be very unique.  (No doubt some will clamber for the ability to become a vampire ala Oblivion.  Power goal?)

The Nightwing seems to fill this role pretty well already.

Eh? What version did you read?
Chapter 3:

It was by this time close on morning, and we went to bed. (Mem., this diary seems horribly like the beginning of the "Arabian Nights," for everything has to break off at cockcrow, or like the ghost of Hamlet's father.)

Chapter 27:
Quote
On the cart was a great square chest. My heart leaped as I saw it, for I felt that the end was coming. The evening was now drawing close, and well I knew that at sunset the Thing, which was till then imprisoned there, would take new freedom and could in any of many forms elude pursuit.

Et quite a lot of cetera, IMO

I dunno, I think this is a pretty neat idea.

And I think mareck needs to learn a little civility because these aren't the Steam forums.

He's going to sleep. Nocturnal animals don't explode in the daylight, they just go to sleep in it.

This, neither of those passages say that vampires burn because of the sun.

Dwarfs are already afraid of the sun. All we need to do is give them fangs and a thirst for blood.

Really though, having the occasional civ leader turn out to be a vampire would be pretty cool. Sending their armies on rampages, kidnapping peasant women, all that sort of thing. Very thematic.

Doesn't Dracula burn in the end though? Because the woman tricks him into go so far out ino the open.

Also I think it would be interesting if vampires would pay for the blood of exotic animals as it tastes nicer or something.
