25th Granite, Year 41 of Osod's Greatness. Early Spring.

I Cain, Dungeon Master and Mistress of Despair have arrived at the village of Enolmebzuth, or Grizzlyoar in the common tongue to study a reputed bottomless pit. Perhaps at the time of my Choosing I shall put this to the test.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Before leaving the Mountainhomes I had received a status update from the trade liaison. There were some things that concerned me, so I sent a runner with a series of instructions. I'm glad that they're being carried out.

I have ordered several stone blocks to be made and ordered a wall in the entry way between the two stone doorways at the entrance. Would you believe they planned on leaving it that way? When I asked why, the peasants pointed out the large ballista further down the hallway. I asked them if they ever considered simply carving a fortification for it to fire through safely, they stated they hadn't.

But I digress, there now appears to be a nice microcline wall in place with the order put in for fortifications to be carved so the ballista may fire unimpeded. Also, there seem to be Elves in the trade depot and the Broker is attending a party. No big loss I suppose.

Oh dear, it appears that one of the "hunters" was recently slain while fighting one of the many two humped camels that roam the area. I suppose if he can't kill one of those beats, he really wasn't all that much use to us.

The following others have arrived with me.

1 Planter
5 Peasant Thralls (One with a cow calf another with a donkey)
1 Glassmaker (whoever told me that there was sand here was lying)
1 Veterinarian (Animal Handler)
1 Carpenter
1 Woodsman (woodcutter)
1 Bone Carver
1 Tanner
1 Cheese Maker
1 Gem Setter
2 Weaponsmith
1 Soapmaker (and a pet puppy)
1 Farmer
1 Engineer
1 Miller

This brings the total population up to 70. The useless "professionals" will be drafted into the military as the auxiliary corps (aka Fortress Guard, wrestlers who will wear only leather armor). If anyone has a better idea, let me know.

Sounds great!

But you might want to make iron chain mail first then assign the useless people to be wrestlers and set them to wear chain mail.  That way they are not instantly slain :D.

Oh and I think the hunter you were talking about was already injured.  He's the one downstairs with the spinal wound right? I think that was from Marko's turn  :).

2nd of Slate, Year 41 of Osod's Greatness. Early Spring.

It appears that the goblins decided to attempt to ambush us as we arrived. The fools failed, can they not realize that Osod demands we choose our end?

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Also Red Fortune has finally made it to the Trade Depot where he pulled the clothes off one of the nearby dead goblins and traded it to the elves for everything they had.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I've mandated some necessities to be made. So we don't have a shortage. Also if my home is to be constructed the way I wish, we will require many blocks.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

12th of Slate, Year 41 of Osod's Greatness. Mid-Spring.
Zefon Anguishceilings has become the first member of the Fortress Guard, I've commissioned some chainmail made for him. Hopefully he can find it before he goes to spar. If not, well I suppose no big loss as he seems to have an unhealthy fascination with tentacle demons and continually asks me for advice if one should appear.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

8th of Felsite, Year 41 of Osod's Greatness. Late-Spring.

It appears that Momuz Tusungsazir, the Furnace Operator has been possessed and claimed a craftsdwarf workshop. We can only hope this creature finds what it requires and leaves him in peace.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
OOC: Figures, it would be a possession and not something that actually gives skill...

13th of Felsite, Year 41 of Osod's Greatness. Late-Spring
It appears that Momuz has found all he required, some silver bars, carp leather, and several stacks of goblin bone. He has shut himself in the workshop and refuses anyone entry. Hopefully whatever he constructs will be worth his possession.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

17th of Felsite, Year 41 of Osod's Greatness. Late-Spring
Momuz has emerged from the workshop no better skilled than he was before and no memory of what happened. He held in his hands a Goblin Bone Earring he calls Zonbabin Tetthush, The Helm-Friends of Pantoming worth 19,200.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Meanwhile, alcohol production has slowed down so I have ordered a secondary brewery to be built next to the fishery, hopefully this will go far in stabilizing our stocks. Thus ended spring.

10th of Hematite, Year 41 of Osod's Greatness. Early-Summer

This is our situation as the humans of Ganuhmong arrive to trade. I currently plan on trading some of the leftover Goblin clothing and some more of the stone mugs we have laying about. Hopefully this meeting will prove, profitable.

18th of Hematite, Year 41 of Osod's Greatness. Early-Summer

During trade negotiations Igniz Zefonestil, Rock Artist, as been Elected Mayor. In order to save on hassle in the future, I believe we should set up some permanent mayoral apartments. If there is room, I'll have them placed near the main living quarters.

2nd of Malachite, Year 41 of Osod's Greatness. Mid-Summer

With the necessary blocks constructed, I am preparing to have the miner's beach the pit, or Marla as it is called. At its lowest level, across from the tombs, will be where I construct my residence. The original plans called for an abundance of green glass. Unfortunately that is an impossibility here so it will be made of stone and I shall place some gem windows in my quarters so I may watch and record accurate accounts of the local fauna at my leisure. To this end I have conscripted the five Peasant Thralls as unskilled labor.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
OOC: Note that there is a door further down the hallway separating the hall and the fortress.

4th of Malachite, Year 41 of Osod's Greatness. Mid-Summer

Our Mayor has mandated that some bags be made. Easily done, I've had them placed in the production queue to be authorized by Red Fortune. Also, Urist Sharkhammer, a loyal child of Osod has come of age. I myself inducted him into the Fortress Guard.

12th of Galena, Year 41 of Osod's Greatness. Late-Summer

Ezum Vatheztun, one of the Peasant Thralls I had conscripted to aid in construction of my home was taken by a mood and claimed a craftdwarfs workshop. Hopefully all goes well with this one as well.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

17th of Galena, Year 41 of Osod's Greatness. Late-Summer

He has acquired some strange reagents: 3 Magnetite Stones, 2 Iron Bars, cave spider silk cloth, rope reed cloth, horse leather, and rough topaz...

21st of Galena, Year 41 of Osod's Greatness. Late-Summer

Ezum has emerged a Master Stoneworker, with a Magnetite Ring he calls Ozonodur Dalzatmomuz, Depressroot the Matched Crypts, it has been appraised at 92,400.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

And so ended Summer. Work slowly continues on smoothing the fortress and building my home. There's very little else, it has been a quiet year. All our stocks are satisfactory. The only problem is that I believe I may have made the Mayor's house too large. Hopefully by Winter we will in the least have it mined out.

Edit: OOC: Damn, I was hoping to be lucky and have enough time during the year to build my Temple to Osod w/ Cain's Living Quarters above. The original idea was to have the main chamber with a couple of different types of suicide booths. Mostly impaling and opening a hatch beneath the dwarfs feet to drop them into the pit. Oh well, I'll have to do with some quick quarters and hope someone else finishes the plans.

Aaah, all our dwarfs are turning into elfs, making jewelry! But I must say, that ear ring is probably the most dwarfy ear ring I've ever seen.  And the ring's pretty cool, although I'm not sure I would want to wear it  ::)

I like the suicide booth ideas, sounds great!  I always make ballista suicide booths, which are more like homicide booths.  Ballista set on fire-at-will, and the noble pulling a lever repeated right in front of the ballista...

I'm wondering when we'll get our first siege.

Just to let everyone know, I should be done today or tomorrow at the latest. I had mandatory training yesterday so I was up for 21 hours. I'm off for my weekend now though so I should be able to find some time to play and get some posts up.

13th of Limestone, Year 41 of Osod's Greatness. Early-Autumn.

A caravan from the Mountainhomes has arrived. I have notified Red Fortune to trade as he sees fit, I am currently absorbed in constructing my home and possibly the beginnings of a temple to Osod. The first order of business is to prepare a temporary storage area for construction materials. The workers have been complaining about having to move things from the top of the fortress to the bottom.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

15th of Limestone, Year 41 of Osod's Greatness. Early-Autumn.

The goblins have decided it is a good idea to try and attack the caravan before it reached the safety of our gates.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

22nd of Limestone, Year 41 of Osod's Greatness. Early-Autumn.

We have had a couple of snatchers attempt to infiltrate the fortress recently, none have made it successfully past the early warning defense system.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

. . .

Apparently Bomrek Bookgrowls our fisherdwarf has been ambushed by a band of goblins. I have ordered all dwarves inside for the moment in the hope she will run back to the fortress.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Instead of running back inside where it is safe, she ran right past the entrance and out towards the plains near the bottomless pit. She was eventually caught by the goblin wrestler who followed her and mangled beyond belief.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

26th of Limestone, Year 41 of Osod's Greatness. Early-Autumn.
Nothing much to report, Bomrek has finally succumbed to her wounds.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

28th of Limestone, Year 41 of Osod's Greatness. Early-Autumn.
**sigh**

This is a delay we don't require...

One of the working stiffs named Vucar Trampledboats was ambushed by more goblins shortly after I allowed everyone to leave the fortress again. The military has been mobilized to deal with the problem...

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

1st of Timber, Year 41 of Osod's Greatness. Late-Autumn.

Some happy news.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Inod Tongsbell, a questionable worshiper of Osod has given birth to another child. This brings our total fortress population back up to 69.

24th of Timber, Year 41 of Osod's Greatness, Late-Autumn.

While visiting the Trade Depot, Shem Palaceglides one of our Champions gave birth to a baby girl.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

With these two children our numbers are back up to 70, this is good.

1st of Moonstone, Year 41 of Osod's Greatness. Early-Winter.

I have just been informed that ezum Towntramples my Gemologist has been acting strangely. The others fear possession.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I have ordered the construction of a Jeweler's Workshop in case he requires one.

Though it appears as if my fears are slightly allayed, as he has claimed a Craftsdwarf Workshop. Hopefully he will be able to find his required materials.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

5th of Moonstone, Year 41 of Osod's Greatness. Early-Winter.

My fears were unfounded as he managed to acquire all the materials he needed.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Now, we wait and see what he constructs.

9th of Moonstone, Year 41 of Osod's Greatness. Early-Winter.

He has emerged! As is usual with possessions he has no knowledge of the past couple of weeks. Yet in his hands he held a masterwork scepter he called Drilltools the Lucid Doctrine. Which according to Red Fortune, should we sell it, would be worth 58,000.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

14th of Opal. Year 41 of Osod's Greatness. Mid-Winter.
It appears that our mayor has finally discussed the trade agreements with the liaison from the Mountainhomes. It appears that they promise to pay a pretty penny for the import of any textiles and clothing. This would be good to keep in mind.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

1st of Granite. Year 42 of Osod's Greatness. Early-Spring.

Finally after a year of construction and planning, I have begun to move into my home. All I require is for the rest of my items to be properly assigned when the hauling is complete. Also the preliminary section of what I hope will be a proper temple to Osod has been complete one floor below my room. The lever and an open square in the floor are ready for a hatch to be placed and then for a privacy wall to be erected around them. There are also some wooden sections to the wall around my room that I had hoped to place windows into, perhaps that can still happen at some future date.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

For now though I step down as temporary regent, though I do not depart this land as it is not yet the time of my Choosing. May Osod be with you all.

Things to note:

In my rush to build the temple/home for Cain I neglected a couple of things, but for the most part everything is mostly in order.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

We need more Fortress Guard for the quota and we also need a Sheriff (forgot to appoint one). Fortunately we have no crime so we really haven't needed one. Also our booze stocks are lower than I'd like but I've queued up some production runs for booze and food.

I believe I gave the guards all have iron chainmail, and there should be a bunch of goblin stuff laying around outside.

The mayor needs a permanent residence. I was planning on making the circular room off from the meeting hall the mayor's quarters, across three levels. With an engraved pillar in the center and channels to open the space. I decided against it, mostly due to time.

For the most part, everything in the fort is running fairly well and I haven't had any complaints. Granted it was a quiet but fun year, dedicated mostly to the construction of my hovel. Hopefully no one minds.

Here's the save.

Unfortunately Map Compressor is giving me grief whenever I try to get a map extracted so I'm just not going to bother.
