Advice for a decent graphics set?
« on: April 06, 2009, 08:19:17 am »

Im already using guybrushes 16x16 tileset, and i was after an unambigous tileset to go with it. As in, it looks prettier, but I can still tell at a glace what profession a dwarf is, or if that pack of goblins are weilding axes or bows. Any suggestions as to which one I should pick?

You should try out Mike Mayday's or sphr's gfx set.  :)

Or, give the Plac1d graphics set a try. You'll may want to switch to his tileset too.

Some people dismiss it as looking too small, but the init.txt options let you scale up the graphics with little trouble.

Definitely check out this map for a look at the tiles and graphics

-There are rumors that Plac1d might have full graphics for Orcs waiting in the next release of his graphics pack.

In all honesty it's pointless asking that here because so many of the lads here will orgasm over Mike Mayday's pack forever.
Personally, however, I don't like Mayday's set, and much prefer Dystopian Qantas

There are three things I know about dwarves:
1. They've got beards. Even the women.
2. They're short. Especially the women.
3. They're Scottish.

Personally I dont like any of them,  So im going to make my own, based on the classic dystopian quantas, with major tweaks to make basic creatures more recognisable. spyrs is too ambigous, alll dwarves look basically the same, maydays set is just ugly so its my own all the way

thanks for feedback none the less

Im using DQ myself. I have also used mayday, and it is ok. As for tileset, I use a Mayday+Belal_Hybrid. I for one will be very interested in what you come up with. So if you do not mind, post up your progress from time to time?
By the way, did you look at Ranting Rodent?

I use Sphr's graphic pack and Autonomous Font with Natural Color init.txt. Looks awesome.

My custom tileset, I think it's decent enough. http://mkv25.net/dfma/map-5268-hammerclears

I'm using Guybrush's 16x16 + Dystopian... Quantas or Rhetoric, I forget?

Plus the Orc graphics that are buried in the thread for that mod somewhere.

That screenshot seems kind of blurry to me- Sphr's stuff seems sharper in my game.
