Rain won't stop, lakes overflowing
« on: April 06, 2009, 05:47:07 am »

I turned off weather to boost my FPS, apparently in the middle of a rainstorm. The rain kept falling.. helpfully filling up all my empty lakes, but, less helpfully, causing them to overflow and flood my map!

I turned weather back on, and waited at least 2 years, but the rain hasn't stopped yet and neither has the massive flooding.

I made a couple movies over on the DF map archive showing it: http://mkv25.net/dfma/browsemovies.php?fortressName=Breachshot

Now that I have the flood contained it's less annoying, but still... of all the strange things to happen to my fortress I never expected this one!

Version is 40d.

There would be people to love having to deal with a slowly rising flood.

Are you sure that you turned it back on? Maybe try turning it off and then on again in the init?

Yes, if I were you, I'd just leave it...a whole new kind of challenge fortress. You could move aboveground, or build towers or huge drainage systems...and you could always make a second fort to play normally.

Well, the videos already show a trench routing to a chasm, so the problem of the map flooding itself is fixed. I was gonna suggest a nice Atom Smasher setup.

Course, now I'm going to go off and recreate that issue myself.

It might just be your map. I know I've seen maps that A: rain forever and B: don't evaporate their 1/7 water.

Funny story, I found one of those "rain forever" maps but it was already raining when I got there so I though that the random tile changes to blue were magical faries from the "Sceren" setting :-[
I latter quit because I was compleatly isolated form every civ :(

It's not the map. I've played with weather on for a while and it never did anything like this. It only started when I turned weather off in the middle of a rainstorm.

You should be able to stop the flood by putting a roof over the ponds, right? I think that's how that cistern over a pond thing works... open a bridge above it when it rains to fill it up, close it when it stops raining to prevent it from evaporating.

Turned off weather in the rain, will the pools overflow on there own or do i need to pump or channel or something?
