Fortress Critique!
« on: April 06, 2009, 02:31:51 am »

Another long-time lurker, first-time poster singing on here.

Been at Dwarf Fortress for a few months, came back to it more intently recently and have practically withdrawn from society to craft my new one. I'm sure it menaces with spikes of something, but I can't nail it down.

Have a look at it, if ye would: Fortress Torchgear

Be warned, I use a tileset. Blame my being raised on 16-bit games if you like.

I'm interested in any comments, advice, praise, project ideas, and/or ways to bring it all down into cruel, bloody, avaricious ruin that you all can provide.

Cheers :D

Love the sort of angular design, looks great!

Random idea from looking at the entrance though, a ballista placed in front of (or behind, if you feel like living on the edge) the trade depot would provide some pretty serious protection against bigger enemies, although it would be over kill to use it on goblins with that kind of a range...

What tileset it that?  I'd love to merge part of it with mine...

On the Wall is a Masterfully engraved carving of Urist McHardcastle and Goblins. Urist McHardcastle is surrounded by the Goblins. The Golbins are stamping on Urist McHardcastle. Urist McHardcaste is laughing at the Goblins. The carving related to the prolonged and bloody death of Urist McHardcastle in the Fall of 1659, the Winter of 1659, and the Spring of 1660. On the engraving is an image of Cheese.

It's actually cobbled together from pieces of at least three, as I just add parts of tilesets I like to the one I've gotten used to. However, aside from a few things (primarily the typeface, but a few sprites here and there), Red Jack is more or less the goods.

Cool, thanks!  I may see if I can edit the walls to allow diagonals...
