Legendary Children?
« on: April 04, 2009, 10:54:59 pm »

This is the first time this has happened to me, I assumed that since children couldn't work, that they wouldn't go insane and build crazy objects.

Gethustsefol, "Harshnessentry", a kobold bone helm

This is a kobold bone helm. All craftsdwarfship is of the highest quality. It is encircled with bands of Fire opal. This object is adorned with hanging rings of kobold bone.

Basic Value:21000*

Urist Austin, Axedwarf.  A dwarf barely alive.  Gentledwarves, we can rebuild him. We have the technology. We have the capability to build the world's first bionic dwarf. Urist Austin will be that dwarf. Better than he was before. Better, stronger, faster.

Yah, children can get moods just like other dwarves, it's always a crafting skill that gets raised though. :/

it's not that children can't work, it's just that they act like dwarves with all their labor options turned off. they're still candidates for moods (obviously since ya got the helm) and since dwarves in moods will still use a labor that's turned off to make an artifact, you'll occasionally get legendary bone/wood/stone crafter children (since skill-less moodies will always pick a craft skill :)

Ancient, after seeing your sig, I have a question.

Does exploding alcohol exert an upward force?

Pretty sure it does.

alcohol doesn't explode at all, it just boils off into a harmful vapor. burning booze often won't even ignite adjacent booze.

I actually have multiple legendary grower children in my fortress because of my excessive farming operations.  They'll harvest just like any other dwarf when 'all dwarves harvest' is enabled, and earn experience in plant-growing for doing so.  The fact that they don't haul and do one task exclusively means it's very easy for them to get legendary if you're growing enough.

Wow....

Now that child has organized a children only party at my major statue.

it's not that children can't work, it's just that they act like dwarves with all their labor options turned off.
This also means they can do labour-less jobs such as removing constructions, etc.
