yes you should definitely train up a bit before you try and take on a cyclops. my current adventurer can take on cyclopses (cyclopie?) with little trouble, mangling limbs chopping off stuff etc.

Actually, screw the axes. I think I found something better..  ;D

Don't mind the mess. I abandoned the fortress (backed it up, obviously) while a caravan was there. Since my dwarves don't wear clothes as they all rot off and I dont make any new ones, these all belonged to the caravan, including lots of random crap thats not mine.

Though I did have a stockpile full of ballista arrows, and they're all over the place. Bit heavy, but so awesome.

BALLISTA ARROW AWESOMENESS
OH MY GOD! THIS IS MADNESS!
i must do that. masterwork feather tree ballista arrows tipped with masterwork adamantine heads, anyone?

also, it's really awesome that ballista arrows act as ammo for the purposes of throwing. do they have the same penetrative power?

Damn, DF crashed when loading some random town. Of course, it doesnt autosave.. So thats lost. Oh well, I'll probably come back later, but I have to prepare my castle for adventure mode first. Note to self, don't abandon when a caravan is in place. I found that ammunition bins do not scatter about at all, along with metal bars, blocks and such.

I recently tried a cyclops myself.

First three adventureers dead.

Fourth adventurer beaten to death with her own shield.

Fifth adventurer charges in with spear... blocked... the cyclops was wearing the shield now, not just wielding it.

Aye, of the semi-megabeasts, I've found the Cyclops the most powerful.
First time I took one on, I had 5 soldiers accompanying me. He turned a spearman inside-out, ripped apart two crossbowmen, and tore out the left eye of a lasher. A maceman and I got off lucky, all we had were sprains and breaks that wore off.

If I hadn't stepped back and thrown an -Iron Bolt- through his chest and out the other end, we would have lost. ;D

Yep.  I gave up before it gained too many levels with it, though.
