THE RIVER OF DEATH
« on: April 04, 2009, 08:03:17 pm »

Kso, there is this town, Lancepeak, that has a wide river cutting through the middle of the town. The town seems like a pretty dangerous place to live not because I have gotten 5 megabeast quests from it alone, but because of the wide river running through it.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

If you don't understand this tileset, all those fish up at the top are carp. And I believe a couple of them are named. I never pass through this town without someone dying from some fish attack, so how can I get rid of the carp menace and save the town?

Dont try. Unless you have a crossbow. And stand many tiles away.

Tell us when you die if you attack with a sword.

Sword? Bah! Use a blunt weapon and make sure those fish strike eachother as you bat them into the air!

I had an underground pool of death once. There was a lot of lizardmen and frogmen, but like, 4 cave crocodiles and a school of carp. My legendary miner/axedwarf took out all the cave crocodiles, and a lot of the crap before dying.

And you can't eat them, either, sadly. Even though it'd make sieges so much more fun; dwarves lining the walls, drooling and carrying sharp knives and forks, ready for the upcoming meals.

Well I went and and killed a bunch of lampreys, but the carp swam off before I could get to them.

I chased the bastards a region away into a large lake where they scattered. It keeps the townspeople safe for now, so I'm going to go train swimming for the next encounter.

EDIT:

It seems my adventuring days are over.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I suppose it is good that I survived all this and managed to get back to town safely, but it is still kinda sad.

you sliced yourself in half and are still alive??

Surrender your secret, witch!

on a more serious note, you could go thar in fortress mode and air drown them, unless they respawn...

I would do that, except the river is the coolest part of the town, and it would be more time consuming. Also, I noticed that the carp haven't come back yet.

Did the carp do that to your adventurer? If they did, I will once and for all finally believe that they are as dangerous as people say they are.
