Well, theoretically, you would probably want to use, y'know, cover.

Your job would also be defending the sniper, as I doubt he wants to slow himself down with a more combat oriented weapon.

The spotter who sticks with the sniper is supposed to find targets for the sniper, generally using something like binoculars or a spotting scope to aid in that respect.

I just had a great idea. I have a radio or something, and instead of pointing at things, I radio in and tell him where stuff is. That way I get to do more combat.

Realistically, yes.

But in this game, that'd be boring.

John, in the event of a large formation or group of guards, me and you pick 'em off from a distance.

Isolated or just a few guards, you move in and distract/isolate them and 'dispose' of them while I give you cover in your noticed.
