I have thought of your response to my rock question and I have digested it. Allow me to present my counterpoint.

Oh wait no. Sorry, wrong image folks. Here is my counterpoint.

But yes, I can understand where you are coming from. I just want to know if we will be a rag-tag team scrounging up weapons or mercenary gods of war stealing nukes so we can have engineers make bullet nukes for us to fire at things for no real reason.

Of course, that is still being debated. I say we start with a limited amount of money to start, and stats are expensive.

In the ideal situation...  Both.  You will start out as a rag-tag group scraping together what limited resources you can, but with luck, effort, and a few good specialists in some areas, you should be able to do all sorts of ridiculous things just for the sake of overkill.

What the problem with everyone wanting their favourite gun? Let them get their favorite guns from the ones that are in the game. Dont want the debates? What the problem with debates, nobody is going to debate about it. Dont screw us out of fun, I mean, its a game, y'knowm we are supposed to have fun, not to use some faceless thingy shown as color bards :(

There's the problem of pointless duplicate guns that have similar stats spamming everything, the fact that it's essentially guaranteed someone will find issue with how we've displayed this real gun or that real gun or some such thing, and we don't want debates spamming this thread about how one particular gun is t3h r0xx0rz.  Just because you can't have a gun named a specific way shouldn't totally kill the game for you, in that respect.  As well as the existing weapons, the liklihood of more variety is pretty high, and once we get everything figured out we'll be adding an array of upgrades so that players have another level of customization for their weapons.

I like the one-weapon-to-start idea. It prevents one squad from having the capacity of covering all or nearly all roles in battle. At the start at least. Frankly, the current system is fine.

EDIT: I'd also like you to point out any real reason for us to currently add more weapons...  Do you see any balance problems?

There's no balance problems, because there's nothing to balance.  The reason there are a multitude of weapons in the world is because there's lots of different metrics to judge them by.  Reducing squabbling and detail doesn't necessitate a lack of options.  I think there should be four or more of each type (rifles, assault rifles, machine guns, rockets, etc), so that the stats have meaning by making them different to other weapons in their type.

Like I've said, this isn't the whole breadth and scale of the weapons that will be available.  This is still very much a work in progress, though we're working on making it a functioning game as fast as we can.

@Little, you can only start with one weapon.

And we get a free hand-to-hand weapon.

I say take the Team Fortress 2 approach: Overpower everything and buff things that are not as overpowered as everything else.

That's not really what we had in mind for this particular forum game.  We're aiming for a bit more of a realistic feel, and that wouldn't help with it.

Just to point it out, with the guns, although these starting guns are pretty bland and generic, it's not as though you buy a gun and that's that. As Golgath mentioned with many goodies, there will be plenty of attachments and modifications. For instance, a battle rifle isn't something you can buy at the beginning, no, but as far as I can tell a battle rifle is an assault rifle with extra accuracy and a scope, both easily possible through modification and attachments. If there's more to it that isn't simply cosmetic in the gun's look, it is most likely possible, such as modifying a gun's barrel length. For some, a literal gun name is best, as some are familiar with them. For others, like me, each individual name describes close to nothing about it. However, most people do know the distinction between an automatic rifle versus a pistol, and simply stating those generic names, combined with whatever attachments, should be much more universal in comprehension. Of course, people could take the gun name and search google images or something for it, but it is still easier to just see the base look, and additional parts.

For an example, think of computers. You can list off the names of plenty of computers, and for those who know that model/build, they understand it. However, for others, noting the specific upgrades to it, such as the graphics memory or RAM, is much more useful, as they may not know what the difference is between the names. We're taking that approach.

Again, either way could work fairly easily, but generic names work easier, in my opinion. So let's try to move away from this debate here, and get back into suggestions, if anyone has them, or questions concerning something.
